About the host
Hosted by Cynthia Bidwell-owner
My name is Cynthia and I was born and grew up in a small village north of Cambridge in England. I have a grown up son and daughter and four grand daughters aged 23, 20, 13 and 9 years. Family is very important to me. As a family we visit the apartment often and it is very much home from home to us. We have enjoyed making it a comfortable and relaxing retreat and we have made very good friends in Okrug Gornji village.
I have lived in the same village all my life and am very much involved in the community having been being a member of the Parish Council, a trustee of the local Day Centre for the elderly and a trustee of our Town Lands Charity. I was Chairman of our Carnival Committee for many years. I belong to the local W.I., Gardening Club, History Society, Royal British Legion and several local art groups. I am currently on the committees of the Friends of St Mary's Church, Over Produce Show and Over Gardening Club. I was the practice manager at a local GP practice and worked there for over 44 years before retiring. I seem to be as busy now in retirement as I was when I was working!
My roots will always be in my home village but I love to travel and visit other countries. My partner Simon and I spent 5 years building a 36ft yacht and we sailed thousands of miles around the coast of Britain, across the North Sea and eventually down to the Mediterranean Sea where we kept our yacht for many years and sailed all around the Med. Simon has now built a 50ft steel yacht behind our house so that we can continue our sailing into our retirement days. Having an apartment base on the beautiful Adriatic coast where we can moor our yacht within view of our own balcony was a dream which has sadly been scuppered by Brexit. We are not wealthy and have worked hard to achieve what we have now but have been lucky that we grew up in a time when that was possible. I think things will be tougher for the younger generations.

Why they chose this property
We heard from a friend that the apartment block was due to be built by a local builder who they knew well. We visited the area and fell in love with both the island and the site. We stayed locally several times during the build and were impressed with the quality of the work. We were involved in choosing the floor coverings, kitchen and bathroom fittings and other details which have all meant that this is an apartment which is individual to us. We have become friends with the builder Mijo and his wife Bozena and their family who live in the village and their friends Marina and Zdravko who now look after the apartment for us. We know that Penthouse View and our guests are in safe hands.
What makes this property unique
The views from this apartment are amazing and we never fail to be moved by the spectacular sunsets from our balcony. I was determined to have a swinging seat on the balcony and I have spent many a happy hour gently swinging and soaking up the atmosphere. Penthouse View is a wonderful place to recharge the batteries and to take some 'me' time in an otherwise very busy life. It is easily accessible from Britain with a short flight time and then just a 10 minute drive from the local Split airport which is modern and efficient. Our friendly taxi driver Vjenceslav (or Mr V) can meet you at the airport and deliver you to the front door. I'm afraid there are five short flights of stairs to the top of the building but the view is definitely worth it.
