About this property

Companion House - in a Secure Estate & an Incredible Setting

The perfect place for your family holiday. We have great bay views from the living and entertainment area across the bay to Chapmans Peak, and stunning mountain views from all the bedrooms. We are a South African/German couple with 2 kids, our home is a peaceful, private, secure home in a private estate in the heart of Hout Bay. It's a 5 minute drive to/from one of the Cape's best beaches, Llandudno Beach. We are 2 minutes from shops and restaurants and the Constantia wine route is just 10 minutes away.

Companion House is a secure home in Hout Bay, our house has three bedrooms, 2 with King beds, 1 Double. The main Bedroom is en-suite (shower only) , the 2 alternate bedrooms share a bathroom (shower only). There's also an additional guest toilet. There's an open plan Bar, Lounge, Dining, Kitchen area, separate TV lounge, and plenty of garden for the kids to play in. There are 2 separate outside entertainment areas and a large swimming pool. (The pool is NOT covered so the home is not suited for young kids who cannot swim. Our parents stay in a private apartment on the property above the garage, they are very happy to assist if you need any help or advice during your stay in Cape Town. We also have back up power, so the electricity issues in South Africa should hopefully not affect you all that much.

REVIEW OF COMPANION HOUSE

This was our first trip to Africa and we couldn't have landed in a better place. Wayne and Gaby's house is paradise. The spacious living area and bedrooms, the beautiful view of the mountains from the porch, and the pool in the back with fabulous landscaping made us feel so wonderful. The hosts couldn't have been more helpful and solicitous. Any question we had was answered immediately and with such care. If we come back to Cape Town we would definitely want to stay Also we will recommend the house to anyone traveling to South Africa.

Wonderful stay

We enjoyed a very comfortable week at Companion house. The pool area was a lovely area to sit in to have meals, the lounge with its two big sofas also. The owner and her parents were very friendly and very eager to please. Would highly recommend.

Great stay in a beautiful region

We (my wife, my son and his girlfriend) stayed two weeks at Companion House in Hout Bay and loved every minute of it. The house is spacious and bright with two lovely terraces on both sides of the house that can, wind permitting, be linked to the main sitting area. The views from the house to the bay and Chapmans's Peak Drive are superb and the location in Hout Bay is ideal. Not too close to the beach and yet not too far away from shops and restaurants. The secure estate is quiet (apart from the odd peacock trying to prove himself) and has a feeling of safety which is not unimportant in South Africa. Some things in the house are a bit worn but that was not too important. The kitchen for example could use some refreshing but still has all amenities and is well equiped, the same applies to the bathrooms. Note that the house has three bedrooms with one very spacious master bedroom and the other two large enough but know that these two are childrens(adolescents) rooms with the necessary posters and feel to it. We didn't mind whatsoever because my son (now 31) has been a skater and bmx-rider so he did not mind the surfing posters. But then there's the garden that is superbly groomed and maintained with a splendid swimming pool. That combined to the almost ever present Sout African sun..... Inge and Joe (parents and/or parents in law to the owners) live in a flat which is built as an extension to the house. They are almost always there and keep an eye on the house or are there to help if you need anything. These ever so nice people make you really feel at home (thanks for the long chats Inge). Would we go back? More than likely!

A comfortable house set in a lovely garden with pool

A spacious, comfortable home set in an interesting, landscaped surrounding garden. Three bedrooms all with double beds, nice linen and enough wardrobe space. One room en suite, other two shared bathroom/loo, also a guest cloakroom. Eating out areas on both sides of the property so's one could choose between sun/shade or wind/no wind. BBQ, and pool. Bathing towels provided as were logs for the BBQs (2). Hout Bay offers several choices for eating and Woolworths provides a "Waitrose type" supermkt for food and household shopping. Its a lovely holiday house.
