From the owner: ''Thank you so much for visiting us again, Lydia! We appreciate faithful guests like you; you are helping us to preserve and maintain this historic homestead!''
This property is beautiful, both the location and the interior. It was very comfortable and relaxing. The owners responded to questions very quickly and were so very kind.
Nice old fashioned place. Felt like I was in the 60's with all of the furniture and appliances. Nonetheless it was nice to be different from the norm for a change.
Boca chica Blvd house is great for family gathering

Spider sanctuary
It was very spacious for our big family and it was at a great location. It was disappointing that we had to sign a waiver that was not disclosed at the time of booking of the property. If the waiver was presented before booking we never would of booked this place. There was spiders all throughout the house as big as palm size. Spiders in the beds, window sills, and the kitchen. Since there is a cleaning fee we expected the property to be more clean as there was dust everywhere, cobwebs, and hairs found in the made beds.

Owner’s Response: “Hi Leticia,
We are disheartened that the experience you recently had at La Hacienda at Ebony Haven was not a positive one. We appreciate you bringing these issues to our attention so that we may address and correct them. This home is part of a larger 4-acre property which is characterized by a native South Texas habitat harboring prickly vegetation as well as the critters that make their homes there. To preserve the original feel of the land and protect the wildlife, we felt it necessary to provide a waiver to allow all involved to be protected.
In times of drought or even excessive rain, the surrounding field area can get dusty. Dust can collect outside in the open areas and on window sills. Our cleaning staff has been very reliable. We have had a conversation and have reinforced our expectations. The busy Summer schedule is no excuse for lack of thoroughness.
We have used the same professional pest control service for several years. In between their service calls, we self-apply additional treatments which are documented in a maintenance log posted at the house.
Again, we apologize for what you experienced and we would like to offer a full refund for the cleaning fee. We hope you will visit us again another time, taking advantage of all the attractions the area has to offer (South Padre Island, world-class Gladys Porter Zoo and nature preserves, SpaceX as well as a resident wild turkey right there on the property!)
Sincerely,
The Works Family”

property was outstanding outside space awesome. but the smallest BR was missing a bed. all in all I would stay there again
Home was nice, location was great for us, would be nice to see some upgrades, had an issue on the last day, spoke with the owner and made him aware , overall would come back again.
The house worked out fine for my group. There was a broken bed rail in the room right next to the living room. I did not see this in the description. The floor covering is about to come up in the entrance by the garage from what appears to be wear and tear and possible some previous flooding. I thought the kitchen was really underequipped. There were not enough plates for us to serve 6. I did not want to use the dishes in the cabinet that appeared to be some type of china. Pot and pans were limited. Basic glasses, water glasses did not exist. Spending $30.00 for dished at a thrift store could really help this place.
There was a hodge podge of glasses, not really any big enough to call an ice tea glass. I thought there were not enough trash bags in the kitchen.
Toilet paper we did find near the washer, but did no see any extra in the back bathroom.
I liked the VCT flooring where you could sweep up, however, the flooring is in very poor condition. It worked fine for my group.
The a/c in the main part of the house did not keep up very well. It seemed a little warm during the day. The large bedroom a/c worked very well, even on the lowest setting.
I think the beds were ok, I did not have any complaints except for the one with the broken rail. I did pull the cover back and take a picture within an hour of arrival.
To me it appeared that this house had water in it at one time. I am a contractor and could see the cabinets in the master bath appeared to be delaminating on the bottom at the make up table. This did not affect my stay, the cabinets just appear worn and could use an update.
For my group this house was just a place to catch a quick bite and spend the night, our days were spent away from the home. We did not find the furniture in the living room comfortable to sit in, however, I know this is a rental and for cleaning purposes, I understand that you have to keep furniture that can be cleaned on a regular basis.
Overall the house worked fine for my group and I would stay there again when in town because the price was right. I would just bring more supplies.
I was disappointed that the house has no outdoor grill with the open flame policy. And did cover this before staying there. It would have been great to have a grill located away from the house, maybe cemented in the ground so it could not be moved?
The house is exactly as advertised. You feel like you are stepping back in time! Walking in, I was instantly transported back to my childhood, thinking I was walking into my grandparents home, complete with Avacado Green stove!
The grounds are amazingly unique. You feel like you are in remote, wooded area. Beautiful and peaceful.
Will definitely be back!
Any nature-loving group of people would enjoy living here: families, birding clubs and those weary of technology. The owners even supply bird feed and feeders ! The big colorful tropical birds in Brownsville only come close if they see food--very amusing. The beds are comfortable and the ranch-style house offers lots of room. The friendly caretaker for this private family reserve is available for any property information or concerns.
2nd time stay, always great for family gatherings, instead of trying to visit everyone else, they can come on over for dinner.
Need to leave a solar Light on or two at the street drive though. Hard to find ,

Excellent place for our family
We could not have found a better place to stay in Brownsville Texas. The house and the grounds are excellent. It would also be a totally productive setup for any journalist do stores around Brownsville. The dinning room would be a fine work area.

great stay for wedding and thanksgiving
We had a wonderful stay here for a quick trip for a family wedding and thanksgiving. House is huge and plenty of room for all of us to spread out! the property has an amazing yard that we thoroughly enjoyed!! pretty centrally located in brownsville! The house itself is pretty vintage-y so just know that. For us that was fun and we enjoyed all the knick knacks! (no wi-fi or cable fyi) . Will def stay again here when coming back!!
