Half Norwegian, half Greek, I convinced my husband to move to Crete with just a tad more sun than in Norway, and we arrived in Crete early 2023. After years in hospitality, I missed the joy of welcoming guests. Hosting lets us share the island’s peaceful rhythm and natural beauty — and helps travelers feel truly at home.
Why they chose this property
Apokoronas is one of Crete’s greenest and most welcoming regions — a place where mountains, olive groves, and the sea all meet. The area is known for its fresh vegetables, golden olive oil, friendly locals, and family-run tavernas serving true Cretan flavors.
Within a single day, you can hike scenic gorges, wander through ancient villages, and finish with a swim at one of the nearby beaches. Just remember: bring plenty of water, wear good shoes, and check your route with locals before setting out.

It’s private and tranquil, yet just a short stroll or drive from nearby villages where you’ll find everything you need — from local tavernas to small shops and beaches.
The owner, a kind-hearted medical researcher in his seventies, has a lifelong love for Crete. After years of traveling here, he finally made this house his base and planted fruit trees that he’s now eager to share with guests. If you visit at the right time, you might be lucky enough to pick grapes in late summer or taste oranges and lemons in late winter or spring.
Inside, the apartment is compact yet comfortable, with everything you need and pleasantly cool nights during the summer. Outside is where you’ll spend most of your time — the pool area offers lovely views, and there are several shaded corners around the house where everyone can find their own quiet spot to relax, perhaps with a good book in hand.
With Almyrida less than a kilometer away, a rental car isn’t essential, though it’s recommended — especially in the warmer months — for exploring all the hidden gems of Apokoronas and beyond.
