About this property

Midcentury Modern A-Frame on the Bluff

Welcome to Goathaus, our midcentury modern retreat on the edge of Wisconsin’s famous peninsula. This expanded and renovated A-frame vacation home sits on the Niagara Escarpment, the bluff that runs through Canada to the falls of the same name. The wooded property feels like a quiet forest preserve, with water views from the living room, bedrooms, decks, balcony, fire pit, cliffside picnic area, and “Hammock Hill.”

Goathaus accommodates up to eight people with four bedrooms and four bathrooms, including a first-floor master suite, with a newly opened-up space in the main part of the house that creates clear sight lines from front to back, and room to enjoy each other’s company. The home was recently updated with a new kitchen, picture windows, gas fireplace, furnace, water heater, plank flooring, bathroom fixtures, Scandinavian furniture, and more contemporary styling than, well, the typical Door County offering. It comes comfortably stocked with fresh linens, cookware, toiletries, games, books, and other provisions and diversions. The whole point of being here is to enjoy the indoors and outdoors equally, so be sure to indulge in the two decks, two balconies (sunrise and sunset), fire pit, charcoal grill, picnic table, cornhole, table tennis, ladder ball, ninja line, and five hammocks for taking in the tree-dappled sunlight and views of the bay.

John is the deadpan Wisconsinite who looks for boundaries to push. Liz is the Michigander with visible emotions and tasteful restraint. We’ve been Airbnb Superhosts for several years now, and are bringing what we know—about the area, the guest experience, and unique design touches—to this platform. Maybe yours will be our next rave review.

Why they chose this property

We love Door County because it feels like multiple destinations, with its two coasts, ecological diversity, and the feeling of being both on and off the grid. So we bought this A-frame on the bluff as our escape in all seasons, and we enjoy making it available to others when we’re not using it. There are lots of great communities on the peninsula, but it’s hard to beat Sister Bay for things to do and see.

What makes this property unique

Goathaus is just a short drive from the action, but when you’re settled into its quiet, serene setting, you’ll feel far from the everything.
