Such a charming and relaxing property! We admired the location by the fountain and the bricked-in courtyard. There’s a back deck surrounded by dense, colorful foliage with a serene view that makes it seem you’re not even in the city.
Wonderful home to stay in, larger than expected and in a beautiful neighborhood. Only qualms were that the property owner wasn’t responsive to text sent to the contact numbers left on the profile and no baking tray for the oven.
We really enjoyed the expansive view into trees and sky from the main room and porch! It was also wonderful to have the cool summer temperatures and great cross-ventilation provided by the house layout. And the view of the fountain from the kitchen made cooking and cleaning up a pleasure, especially when its lit after dark!

Spacious but needs work
This property is advertised as 3 bedrooms but one is a converted dining room right next to the kitchen. The linens are dingy, the towels thread bare and the pillows are ridiculously flat and stained. We had to buy our own pillows for comfort. The kitchen is limitedly stocked with no food storage containers, foil, plastic wrap, or storage baggies. There were no cleaning supplies. There are many large cracks in the walls and ceiling and the walls could use a good scrub. There is a lot of traffic and there were some races around the fountain in the wee hours of the morning. I don’t know that we would stay there again unless some improvements are made.
We really enjoyed our stay here. It was clean. The beds are comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked. The main room is big and comfortable. The neighborhood felt safe. The front patio could use some outdoor furniture but is beautiful. The fountain is a fun, unique feature.
One thing I didn't see in the listing or anyone else's comments is how accessible this unit is. Absolutely, zero steps from parking in the driveway to getting inside and everything is on one floor. This was especially helpful for my elderly mother and is something that really needs to be noted as that's pretty rare in Berkeley.
Again, overall we loved this place and recommend it.
Communication is basically the reason I didn't rate this place top of the scale. I got less than halfway into explaining that when VRBO cut me off, so trying to keep this abbreviated...
Was told would get access codes and info 72 hour ahead, came about 48 ahead which caused me a day of worry. Instructions claimed there was cable, there wasn't. No network TV. Called to ask about that, and got an answering service who claimed owner would call us back. Never heard anything back. Shower curtain in the main bathroom was missing. Called to report that. Answering service asked for pictures, said they'd send an email address to send to. Never got an email address.
Quick complaints, No top sheets, listing says place to yourself but there's people in a lower unit.
Again, overall very happy, recommend highly
This house was spotless. Despite being on a busy street it was surprisingly quiet at night. The back balcony had a secluded view, very enjoyable. The front is an enclosed courtyard so kids could play outside without worry. Handy to Tilden park.
But several things disturbing enough to preclude us from renting again. The house is not standalone - there is a downstairs where appears someone lives, not mentioned in the listing. Several packages were left at front door for?. Manager said put in garage which was unlocked. Room for 2 cars but only 1 could be used. 3 dif cars parked there, one went in garage. One day a couple came walking up from downstairs inside our front yard & out a gate, so we were not alone on the property and front yard not safe for our kids without us, very unsettling!
Coffee maker but no filters so bring yr own. NO top sheets on beds, just bottom sheet & comforter. Are comforters washed after ea rental? Scary not knowing. Complete set of sheets should be requirement any VRBO.
No washcloths so yr own. Decent clean looking large couch. But 2 pillows were so threadbare, dirty, full of holes. In master bdrm, light lt side of bed didn’t work, overhead light& fan but with no instructions to turn on, light in closet couldn’t reach cord so high, tied up and shld be untied. No binder w/instructions when leaving home at the end of stay as every other VRBO has. No instructions for the TV. Could not empty the trash - outside trash can overflowing.
Loved strolling down to Noah's for bagels every morning and wandering down Solano watching the sun set in the evening. The private deck is just right for morning coffee or tea - lots of privacy and sunlight. Enough space for the four of us, but we did occupy all the seating available when watching TV. Wonderful neighbourhood for walking if you don't mind some hills.
Clean and spacious. Had everything needed for a week's stay. Very quiet, considering it is at base of a large traffic circle. Fountain that lights up at night in the middle of the traffic circle is a nice touch. Close to Tilden park entrance in North Berkeley and shopping/restaurants in Adjoining Albany.
We stayed one night. It is located close to family. The house itself was comfortable and clean. Very spacious. Has a front courtyard and a nice balcony. The fountain in the traffic circle outside is a nice touch

Ok
Good morning sunshine! Thank you for letting us be a part of your beautiful day. We all had so much fun. We hope to see you soon. We just left the house. We just wanted you to know that the dishwasher had standing water in it and smelled like something died in it. So we hand washed. I don’t want you to get charged for that. It wasn’t us, garbage under sofa, and the tv xfinity remote wasn’t there.
Thank you for putting us up. We love you both. Have fun in Calistoga 😘💜
mosquitos and weird bugs flying in. there were also bugs in shower it was nice and spacious though they didn’t include someone lives right under you so you don’t really receive all the privacy you think your getting
We had a great stay, thank you! I just love the location and the view outside the living room is so beautiful in the morning. You also did a great job decorating the interior.
Thanks again!

Disappointing visit
My family stayed at the house to visit my son at UC Berkeley. We bought lots of groceries prior to arriving at the house. Once we got to the house, we found out the refrigerator was broken. When I called the property manager, she knew it was broken, but didn’t let me know. She said she would call me the next day and never did. When I called, no one answered. We had to throw out our perishables.
The owner bought a tiny refrigerator for us to use, but it was only large enough to hold one soda can so it was completely useless.
The property isn’t really a whole house, there’s an apartment underneath. When the tenants talk, it sounds like they’re in the house.
The house isn’t cared for. The outdoor trash cans were so full, there wasn’t room for trashbags. There are no hand towels. Just a bath towel per person to use for everything in the bathroom. The pods for the coffee machine are the wrong size and can’t be used. The clothes washer has mold in it. The mattress in the master bedroom can rise via remote control but of course there’s no battery. The beds only have a fitted sheet, so the comforter on top of you has been used by countless other people. The comforters don’t even have a duvet cover that can be washed.
The location is great, even though the house is on a very busy street. There are lots of nice restaurants within walking distance.
Pros: great location and view; plenty of room for the 2 of us.
Cons: pretty sparsely stocked (e.g., no hand towels/washcloths for kitchen or bath and no plug for bath tub; minimal cooking utensils/supplies, etc)

Why they chose this property
It is upscale but not up the hills, so you get walker's paradise and picturesque houses of Berkeley Hills. Walking distance to Gourmet Ghetto with best Berkeley restaurants, and Solano strip with a supermarket and lots of dining spots (check out Yelp! -- we also list some of our favorite spots in the Guidebook).
