Outdoor activities in addition to lounging on the beach or laying in the beach bed: walk to the famous Indian Pass Raw Bar, visit St. Vincent Island at the end of the peninsula, ride the beach and the streets in a rented golf cart, horse back riding with local providers, bring bikes for beach rides or down to the boat launch at the end of the peninsula, day trips into beautiful Apalachicola, hire local fishing guides for St. Joe bay or Apalachicola bay, scallop in St. Joe bay.... the list is almost endless on Indian Pass.

Cancelled by host the day of check in
The rental was cancelled by the host on the morning of check in. We were in a hotel in Atlanta and received a message 8 hours prior to check in. His message said that he double booked and we should go on VRBO to find another rental. We had booked months in advance and had just communicated with him that week about renting his golf cart. We have rented through VRBO for years and have never experienced (or heard of others experiencing) this type of situation. The owner had a very cavalier attitude and seemed unconcerned by how this affected our family.

Beautiful
We really enjoyed our time at Gulf County. The home was clean and stocked with all the necessities. The views of the beach and the lagoon were beautiful. We even saw a dolphin up close from the dock. We also enjoyed the area restaurants and shops. We will definitely come back!

Great Location, Big House
Our family group of 12 (6 adults, 6 kids) recently stayed at this beach house for a week. We all had a fun week. The house has an eclectic collection of furniture and decor and honestly looked like the owner and his family just left and we moved in right after them. The kitchen was well stocked with spices, pots/pans, silverware, etc. The water filter to the refrigerator needed replacing however so we depended on bottled water for drinking for the entire week. The access to the beach is fantastic and at times it seemed we had the beach to ourselves, very nice! The kids (and the adults) spent much time in the water and enjoyed a bonfire one night at the beach. The back of the house faces the lagoon and the owner provided kayaks for our use, great fun! Try as we may, we couldn't get the gas grill to light although it appeared to be in good shape and in fact was new in March. There was a range of comments regarding bed comfort, the a/c provided ample cooling, the bedrooms were spacious. The one major drawback is the fact that the well water has a pungent sulfur odor, rotten egg smell. The well and piping need to be shocked with chlorine to knock the smell back. It detracts from what otherwise would be a fabulous property. All in all, the house location and access to a quiet beach with the number of amenities the owner provides makes this a fun vacation house

Great Time!
Great space for multiple couples! Our group loved the easy access to the bay and the ocean. Plenty of room for all our vehicles and our boat. Easy drive into Port St Joe if you want to go out to eat or shop and you’re still able to enjoy a secluded space to relax in. Loved our stay!!

About the host

Host profile image
My name is Kel Long - I am a lawyer in Atlanta and also live a lot of the year at 837. I designed and built the house in 2000. I have not rented the house to the public before now, but instead it was only used by family and friends. We are now traveling more and the house is not being used, thus I am renting it to the public for the first time. Because of the personal nature of the home to my family we will be selective in who we rent to and we expect and hope that: 1) that you will take care of it and treasure it as we do and 2) that you will create great family memories there as we have over the years. There is no other place like Indian Pass and I think you will agree that 837 is a unique and special home.
