Great place to stay near Acadia. No AC is the main downfall if you’re staying when it’s hot out. The road is loud with the windows open.

Charming farmhouse, perfect for two people! Everything was very clean, well stocked kitchen, and Kimberly was very responsive. The location was perfect for accessing Acadia, with a carriage road entrance around a mile and a half away. Nice back deck with a grill and a private back yard.

Such a cute house with great character. Extremely close to all activities/places in Acadia. The house was very clean and the host was very nice, even leaving us a bottle of wine and snacks/drinks in the fridge! The house does get a little warm in hot weather with no AC, but plenty of fans are provided that make up for it.

It’s a lovely small house, at the right price. The host was a great communicator, and really thoughtful with a fridge stocked with welcome plates of fruit, cheese and crackers, and wine beer, and seltzers. So appreciated after a long trip. The house is attractive and neat. My only two dings are the noise from the highway (the house is very close to the busy road), and when it’s hot out, the house really heats up and the only relief is fans.

About the host

Hosted by Kimberly Gray

Host profile image
My name is Kimberly and I grew up on Mt. Desert Island in the very house you have chosen to stay in.

Why they chose this property

Somes Sound drive or 198 is a beautifully wooded and scenic route into Somesville in one direction and Northeast Harbor in the other…it can however, be a very busy and noisy road in the summer. Sergeant Drive, which is just up the road from Sound House, is an amazingly gorgeous view into Northeast Harbor of the of the fjord called Somes Sound.

What makes this property unique

The Sound House turned 134 years old in 2025. The house is my family home… I’ve updated some of what you see to make staying here more comfortable and yet, I’ve also tried to leave some things as is. The old girl is a work in progress. The house is quirky and has a personality all her own. Sound house is one of the last remaining farmhouses that populated Somes Sound.
