About the host
Hosted by Aimee Rollyson
Hi, I’m Ryan. I grew up in the hills of West Virginia, where I learned early to appreciate the stillness of the woods, the strength of community, and the beauty of old things. Corton Lodge began as a dream to preserve the past and build something meaningful in the place I love.
In 2023, I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. That news changed everything—but instead of stepping back, I stepped into this project with more determination than ever. Restoring this 1913 church into Corton Lodge became my mission, my therapy, and my way of giving something back. Every board, every nail, every detail carries the story of resilience and hope.
I love being a host because it lets me welcome others into a space filled with peace, purpose, and beauty. Whether you're here to relax, explore, celebrate, or just breathe for a while, I hope you find what you need here. The river keeps rolling, and I’ve learned that, no matter what, everything is going to be okay.

Why they chose this property
I chose this spot because it feels like home—because it is home. Nestled along the Elk River in Clendenin, West Virginia, this quiet, welcoming community is surrounded by forested hills, flowing water, and the kind of peace you can’t fake. The moment I saw the old 1913 church sitting by the river, I knew it was something special.
What I love most about this area is how it invites you to slow down. Whether you’re fishing at sunrise, watching deer cross the trails, or sitting by the firepit under a sky full of stars—this place reminds you what matters. The people here are kind, the air is fresh, and the river always has something to say if you’re willing to listen.
It’s a little off the beaten path, and that’s exactly the point. This neighborhood gives you space to breathe.

What makes this property unique
Corton Lodge isn’t just a place to stay—it’s an experience rooted in history, nature, and restoration. What sets it apart is that it was once a 1913 church, lovingly restored into a peaceful riverfront retreat. Original woodwork, vaulted ceilings, and even the bell tower remain, blending the sacred beauty of the past with the comforts of today.
You’ll have 180 private acres to explore, 4.5 miles of trails, a 360° wraparound deck for taking in the mountain views, and your own private access to the Elk River for swimming, kayaking, or fishing. A riverside pavilion, fire pit area, and handcrafted details throughout the lodge make every moment feel thoughtful and intentional.
But more than anything, Corton Lodge was built with heart. It’s a story of redemption—of a building, of land, and in many ways, of my own life. Guests tell us they feel something special the moment they arrive. I believe that’s because they do.
