About this property
Cabin, 2 Bedroom, 2 Double Bed, 1 Twin, Kitchen
This basic, remote cabin can serve as an outpost for your outdoor adventures in Maines 100-mile wilderness. Without any running water, wifi or electricity, you’ll be able to get back to basics of watching the sunset and listening to loons calling on your screened in porch.
The cabin holds a kitchen with a propane refrigerator, stove and propane lamps but lacks running water or electricity. There is a hand pump well outside that provides non-potable water and we’ll get you set up with plenty of potable water for your stay. A woodstove can warm you on cool spring and fall evenings and the outhouse is a short walk away from the cabin. We’ll provide wood for your woodstove or any outdoor fires you want to have during your stay.
There are two bedrooms in the cabin. One bedroom holds a double bed while the other has a double bed and a twin bed. The common room has a futon that can convert into a double bed. Beds come with pillows, linens and blankets.
The cabin is located on gated logging roads which are closed from 9:00pm and 6:00am. You cannot pass through the gates except for at these times.
There are two canoes onsite complete with pfd’s and paddles. You can launch the canoes from the private dock though there is no boat launch for trailered boats. Long pond is a fun beginner flatwater paddle. At 650 acres you can spend a couple hours to half a day exploring the pond.
Gorman Chairback Lodge is a 5 minute drive away. If you need additional potable water, firewood, pfd’s or other supplies you’ll need to make the trip. As there is no cell phone coverage or wifi at Moose Point Cabin, Gorman will be your go to location in case of emergencies. You can cook all of your meals at Moose Point or let someone else cook for you a Gorman Chairback Lodge. Purchase meals at least 24 hours in advance of your stay.
Moose Point is located in an International Dark Sky Park, providing breathtaking views of the night sky. You can travel to Gorman Chairback in the evening to use their telescope to get a closer look at the night sky or simply revel in the majesty of the milky way from your private dock on the water.
The darkness can be complete at night, so while there are propane lights in the cabin we strongly suggest bringing flashlights and headlamps.
