The peacock house was a great place for my family, we were four couples. Very clean and well stocked with everything we needed plus yummy cinnamon rolls and some breakfast foods. The host was prompt and easy to communicate with. Would definitely stay again!
This home's simple exterior hides a beautifully designed and recently decorated interior. Quite impressive. Inside the front door, the wonderfully crafted and preserved woodwork from yesteryear provides a warm welcome to arriving guests. For guest comfort, the hosts offer all the same amenities one would find an upscale hotel, ie, fluffy bathrobes, lotions, soaps. (Comfortable mattresses, too.) We found the hosts easy to work with from check-in through check-out and accessible when the need arose. The home was extraordinarily clean and easy to live in and relax. For history buffs following the Santa Fe Trail to Santa Fe or Taos, NM, this home is just west of Dodge City and would be a comfortable stop along the way. It might also be good for a quiet, relaxing getaway in a small, safe and friendly community. Be sure to try the home-made cinnamon rolls sold downtown on Main St next to the Coffee House.

About the host
Hosted by Sara McFarland
Hi, I’m Lynn — I fell in love with this old house the first time I saw its bones and the stories still hiding in its walls. What began as a small project to save a friend’s grandmother’s home became a full renovation and a labor of love. We’ve restored every room with comfort and character in mind, blending Victorian charm with modern touches.
I live nearby in Cimarron and am happy to offer local insight, whether you’re chasing history in Dodge City or just looking for the best cinnamon rolls in town. My goal is simple: to make you feel at home while you explore the heart of the Old West.
Why they chose this property
The neighborhood is peaceful, much like the rest of Cimarron, where people still wave as they walk by and everyone seems to know each other. There’s a genuine sense of community here. Our neighbors are kind, welcoming folks, and we feel lucky to call them our own.
What makes this property unique
The Peacock House is more than a stay — it’s a story. Every inch of this 1906 Victorian Folk home has been lovingly renovated, preserving its old-world charm while adding modern comfort.
Inside, you’ll find thoughtful touches throughout: a gourmet kitchen, a library on the landing, curated art, and spaces designed for both rest and gathering. The home strikes a balance between quiet luxury and the warmth of a lived-in space — where sunlight catches on restored woodwork and every detail feels intentional.
It’s the kind of home that invites you to slow down, breathe, and feel rooted — right in the heart of Cimarron’s small-town hospitality.
