Island Activities:
BEACH COMBING
You never know what is around the corner. Feel like a kid again, or take your kids to create new memories on the many Alaska beaches. Whether you choose to beach your boat on one of the many island beaches or travel just north of Thorne Bay to Sandy Beach at low tide, you won’t be disappointed with the tidepool life nor the treasures one might find hidden from all until your eyes spot it. There also, guided beach tours available to some of the outlying islands.
Please always be mindful of wildlife and exercise caution when going into more remote areas.
Sandy Beach
KAYAKING/CANOEING
There is no lack of water access for the adventurous. Prince of Wales Island hosts various vendors for kayak/canoe rentals as well as some guided trips are available. We can recommend the ideal access points.
FISHING
FRESHWATER FISHING/RIVER SALMON RUN
There are all types of rivers and streams to try your luck. One of the best salmon spots during the spawn (late August through September) is just 1.5 miles from the cabin.
Island Processing, located in Klawock, will be glad to process, vacuum seal, flash freeze, and box your catch for the trip home. There is a freezer available with the cabin to store that catch until time to leave.
SALTWATER FISHING
The waters surrounding the west side of the island is home to a variety of sought after trophies! Whether your goal is to land that prize King Salmon, halibut, or a variety of other species which inhabit Prince of Wale’s waters, you won’t be disappointed!
The angler will find a large variety of vendors for day charters. Be sure to check price and compare services which are included in the fee, because they can vary. We encourage you to make your reservations early!
For the experienced boat operator, there are opportunities to rent a boat or skiff. It is suggested that if you plan on renting a boat, that one might check out an on-line Alaska Safe Boating Course.
We recommend that as soon as your dates are confirmed for travel, you should also make your other reservations, i.e., car, day charter, ATV, boat/skiff, kayak/canoe, as availability goes quickly.

About the host
Hosted by Deena Taylor

Change: Welcome to our property! My name is Deena Taylor and so excited you have stopped by. I relocated to Alaska in ..... HERE IS WHERE YOUR STORY GOES.
We are Dale and Deena Taylor and are so excited you have stopped by! We came to Alaska with our own story and journey, meeting in August 2013 which led to marriage in June of 2014.
Dale is a retired ironworker, who made his way to Alaska 30+ years ago after a family vacation which led to purchasing the land they live on. He lived his dream in the summers, with time spent building their current home and developing the land.
Deena is an RN and came to Alaska after accepting a position in Petersburg, Alaska. She was raised on a small town in NE Oklahoma, which was 5 minutes from Ft. Gibson Lake. Having been exposed to fishing all of her life; first on her father’s farm, family vacations to Minnesota, later, trips to New Mexico for trout fishing .The dye was cast to be an avid Alaska fisherwoman!
Dale and I have discussed the option of owning a vacation rental, possibly building a cabin on our property. However, the opportunity to buy this cabin became available in May of 2017 and a reality in July. After upgrades and remodeling, it is now a reality and we offer it to our guests as Southeast Alaska Getaway! We welcome you to our cabin as you experience our Alaska and doing it your way!
A favorite saying of Deena’s is: “Give a woman a fish and she will eat for a day, teach her to fish and she will out fish you every time!”
