About this property
Chateau Esme (Entire House)
Built in 1890, Chateau Esme is a classic Edwardian architectural masterpiece nestled between the iconic Castro and Mission neighborhoods, just a block from Delores Park. With breathtaking views of Sutro Tower, Twin Peaks, Mission Delores, and City Hall, Chateau Esme features vaulted ceilings and large windows that fill its many rooms with natural light. Warmed by its five fireplaces, hardwood floors, and premium linens, you will experience San Francisco as it was 135 years ago and is today.
The space
Chateau Esme occupies the third and fourth floors of a four story classic Edwardian home built in 1890 and tastefully modernized.
With 11 foot ceilings, there are 40 stairs to climb to enter the third story. Once you have arrived at the top of the stairs, you will see an expansive home with solid french oak wood floors, crown moldings, antique light fixtures, large doorways, and tall windows allowing an abundance of light to fill the house.
The living room features a 150 year old fainting couch and seating for six people, with a fireplace, and breathtaking views of Sutro Tower and Twin Peaks, as well as the Victorian and Edwardian houses of historic 17th Street in the Mission Delores neighborhood.
Off the main hallway is the kitchen with a large island for gathering and preparing meals. The kitchen is fully stocked and includes an espresso machine, Nespresso machine, hot water pot, microwave, dishwasher, stove, toaster, blender, and cookware. A newly installed refrigerator with a beverage center, water dispenser, and ice maker is available for your use. The kitchen offers views of Mission Delores (St. Francis Basilica) and the gardens below.
Through the kitchen is a sunroom featuring a gas fireplace and a table with seating for up to four people and a loveseat that comfortably seats two. From the sunroom, you can access the back deck with a partial view of City Hall (which is lit up at night) and the gardens below (our guests are not permitted to access the gardens below).
The main hallway has access to a stairway to the loft where a washer and dryer are located for your use, as well as additional linens and a printer. Views from the skylights and windows in the loft include Twin Peaks, Sutro Tower, City Hall, Duboce Triangle, and Delores Heights. The bedroom at the end of the loft has views of Delores Park, Delores Heights, and a view of 17th Street below.
This historic home has three bedrooms off the main hallway that includes a Double Room with a seating area, fireplace, 42 inch television, dresser, closet, and a double bed; our King Room features a king bed, fireplace, television, dresser, closet, and 42 inch television; and our Master Suite offers a queen bed, dresser, fireplace, closet, fireplace, and a private bathroom with a clawfoot bathtub and shower. There is a fourth bedroom in the loft with a queen size bed, clothing rod, desk, and a small dresser.
The home is adorned with five large wool carpets (one in each bedroom and the living room) Pendleton wool blankets in each bedroom and the sunroom, and 100% cotton linens.
Guests are free to use the living room fireplace on clean air days, the gas fireplace, and the electric fireplace in the bedrooms. The home also has central heating to maintain a comfortable ambient temperature, while guests are encouraged to use their private fireplaces to warm their rooms. The home has smart lights and dimmer switches to create a warm and comfortable ambiance.
We hope you love this historic home and we look forward to your stay.
p.s. For you safety, ring cameras are installed in the front of the house and overlooking the main hallway as well as smart locks in the front, side and rear of the house.
