Tequesquitengo comes from the Nahuatl, is an agglutinated place-name that is composed of two words: Tequixquitl = tequezquite (soda carbonate), tenco = place on the shore, and which means "Place on the shore of tequezquite". Due to its economic development linked to tourism, it is commonly known as "Teques"
