About this property
The Crosby Loft - rare, elegant, spacious loft w sauna [ Not a hotel ]
Live like a New Yorker! This is a one-of-a-kind apartment in an unbeatable location: the best shops, restaurants, subway access. Perfect for adult families with ample areas for privacy or time together.
Enjoy a quiet, spacious, uniquely furnished 2-floor loft with museum-quality art, huge ceilings, and private elevator. Please note price is fixed; no discounts.
MORE DETAIL:
This 1800 sq ft / 550 sq meter apartment is situated in a converted warehouse and has very high (20 ft/ 6 m) ceilings, large windows to the North and South, and a generous skylight, all of which make the apartment very sunny -- a rarity in Manhattan.
The space has a rotating art collection. Some paintings and photographs were made by friends, some by artists who had retrospectives at MoMA, and others from contemporary art galleries in South Africa where I used to travel for work.
DOWNSTAIRS
On the first floor, the keyed elevator opens up into a large living and dining area. A full bath is off to the left. It is small, but clean and functional, with a shower and shelving for toiletries.
The kitchen is fully stocked with tools — and pantry items which you are very welcome to use if needed. There is a pharmaceutical-grade water filter under the kitchen sink.
In the back of the first floor is a cozy living room situated under the large skylight -- this is the room most favored by my friends.
UPSTAIRS
The second floor has an additional living area. If needed, the couch can be converted into a comfortable single bed to sleep 5 in total. (Please let me know if you would like this option before your arrival.)
The upstairs bathroom includes double sinks, a sauna, a jacuzzi tub, and a shower stall. There is a pharmaceutical-grade water filter on the upstairs shower head. This means the water pressure is a little lower than normal, but all toxins will have been filtered out.
There is a full washer/dryer, iron, and ironing board. While there are no closets per se, there is a garment rack with ample hangers for hanging clothes, suitcase racks, and a partial wardrobe in the front/library bedroom.
SLEEPING AREAS
There are two sleeping areas upstairs. Please note this is a true loft so there are no bedroom doors, but both sleeping areas are private from each other. The floor plan in the photo gallery section can help you understand the layout of the bedrooms vis-à-vis each other.
The first sleeping area is an alcove with a Double bed. This room is also situated under the skylight, and although it does not have a door, there is an opaque curtain that can be drawn shut for privacy. (It is wonderful to sleep here during a rainstorm or snowstorm.)
At the other end of the floor is another open but private bedroom with a Queen bed. This room has a wall of windows and is very quiet. While the other bedroom is under a skylight and cannot be blocked, the back bedroom windows can be blocked with blackout film. *Please mention you would like this option when booking.*
Both mattresses are exceptionally comfortable with memory foam toppers. All linens are hotel-quality, professionally laundered, and used only for guests.
CHALLENGES TO SOME, ADVANTAGES TO OTHERS ...
1. This home has many artful, delicate objects and furnishings; a few guests have commented that this is stressful for families with small children. If you would like me to remove fragile objects for your stay, please let me know as I would be happy to do this.
2. I've never had a guest complain about too much light in either bedroom affecting sleep, but be advised that the front Double bedroom is under a skylight. (The back Queen bedroom can be blocked out with blackout film.)
3. There are no closets for clothes storage, but there is a clothing rack with hangers, suitcase stands, and an empty dresser in the Double bedroom.
INSIDER EXPERIENCES
Someone could literally spend a month in the 20 square blocks surrounding the apartment and still not fully experience all the interesting options in the area.
I look forward to the possibility of being your host and helping you enjoy this wonderful neighborhood while avoiding the tourist traps.
Lisa
*TO REQUEST A BOOKING*
Because this is my home, please tell me a bit about who will be staying. The loft is best suited for mature, respectful adults, given that this is an upscale, quiet building. Out of courtesy to my neighbors, no parties or outside guests who are not staying in the loft are allowed. While I love kids, this is probably not the best option for children 2-8. Price is fixed; no discounts.
ADDITIONAL CLEANING
For longer stays, I have a wonderful housekeeper who can help with weekly bedding/towel laundry and cleaning for a pass-through cost of $160. *Please let me know when booking if you would like this service.*
CHECK IN/CHECK OUT TIMES
Check in time is 4:00 PM and check out time is 11 AM.
LOCATION
If you are browsing this listing, you already know SoHo is the most stimulating, creative, and centrally-located NYC neighborhood to live in, work in, and visit. Many celebrities live in this area. Even if you don't book this particular loft, I highly recommend visitors consider staying in SoHo.
While SoHo (SOuth of HOuston) has all the well-known global boutiques, two blocks east is NoLiTa (NOrth of LIttle iTAly) which has local storefronts with items you won't find in other cities. Also nearby is Greenwich Village (quaint and tree-lined but apartments are small and dark), Union Square (farmer's market but neighborhood not cozy), Chinatown (good cultural voyeurism), and the Lower East Side (interesting grunge/hipster scene but loud to sleep in at night).
Most tourists are usually staying and dining in Midtown/Times Square or the Meatpacking District so you would be among the few visitors to NYC that stay in this desirable residential area.
