Designated an underwater state park, Emerald Bay is the resting place for boats, launches and barges used in the lake before the turn-of-the-20th-century. Tallac Historic Site
The 74-acre Tallac Historic site captures how life was in turn-of-the-20th-century South Lake Tahoe. The site features the remains of the Tallac Resort and three large summer estates built by wealthy San Franciscans. 3 mi. north of South Lake Tahoe.


Nevada State Railroad Museum
Located in historical Carson City, the museum houses a collection of 65 locomotives and cars, including 40 built before 1900. Open: 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. daily. 27 mi.
