The story behind Casamara
Elena’s on the Beach is named for Elena, an American who fell in love with Los Ayala in the 1960s—back when it was little more than a quiet fishing village. She and her husband built their home here and became part of the fabric of the community. Now 98, Elena remains active in supporting her local library and children’s programs.
The property is family-run, cared for by local residents who have lived in the area for over a decade and are proud to carry forward a legacy of hospitality, connection, and care.

About the host
Hosted by Stephanie Ralston
Elena’s on the Beach is named for my mother, Elena, who fell in love with Los Ayala in the 1960s—back when it was little more than a quiet fishing village. She and her husband built their lives here and became part of the fabric of the community. They built a library with thousands of books, for the local children. Elena is well known throughout the village for her contribution to the children and to local families. The library is located on the property. Now 98, Elena remains active in teaching the grandchildren of her first students in her library (Elena's Biblioteca) which supports local children in improving their reading, learning English and most of all, having fun!
I have been coming to Los Ayala most of my life. 20 years ago I decided to spend more time in Los Ayala. Each year we stayed longer and longer because we love the area so much. We now live in Los Ayala full time.

Why they chose this property
My parents sailed into the cove in the 1960's to visit friends who had just bought a home here. My Mother described it as something out of the south sea islands. It was love at first sight. My Dad retired and they spent the rest of their lives dividing their time between Los Ayala and the US.
What makes this property unique
The property is family-run, cared for by local residents who have lived in the area for over a decade and are proud to carry forward a legacy of hospitality, connection, and care.
