Why Marie Olsen chose Great Cacapon
We spent years searching for the Nut House. We wanted to be close enough to DC that we could do a day trip. We picked River Ridge because of the river access, the community spirit and the easy access to America's original spa town, Berkeley Springs.
What makes this Cabin unique
The Nut House offers the ability to have multiple families stay together. Also great for a guys or gals weekend away. We provide three kayaks for at the river for the exclusive use of our guests. The community, River Ridge, welcomes all of the seasons. The first weeks of Spring bring white clouds of Service Berry blossoms, followed closely by the vibrant red buds and dogwoods. Violets, blue bells, and phlox carpet the river banks and hillsides. Summer calls for swimming and boating along the scenic Cacapon River. The River Ridge park has boat racks, a bath house, and picnic tables for outdoor fun. In the fall, the oaks, maples, and hickories steal the show with the golden Paw Paws along the river persisting until the first snows. In Winter, snow blankets the hills while curls of wood smoke and roaming flocks of wild turkey provide a memorable backdrop for holiday gatherings.

Relaxing cabin in WV
Great property! Everything was as expected. Owner was very responsive when we had questions.
Wonderful relaxing stay!
The Nut House was amazing! Our family came away from our stay refreshed and rejuvenated. The cabin was clean and amazingly well stocked. We prepared beautiful meals in the kitchen and spent relaxing evenings in the hot tub. Our ping pong skills were greatly improved as well. Highly recommended by our Philadelphia-based crew.
Perfect mountain getaway
Had a lovely holiday weekend at the Nut House. The property is stunning in its beauty and quietness, and the house warm and inviting. Was the perfect location for a getaway!
Delighted to have welcomed you to the Nut House. We hope you have a happy and healthy new year! Thanks for booking with us.
What a nice place to stay, From the friendly and helpful staff to being able to call and speak with the owner if we had an issue made to experience a great one! This place is beautiful!
Thanks. We are always available for our guests. We are happy you enjoyed your visit.
The edge of the world
Our family needed a get away and this was the perfect place to go for a few days! We called it “the edge of the world” because it was secluded and there’s a short walk to an empty lot that has a big drop off. Lots of game playing and spotty WiFi made for a time to talk and make memories.
The cabin was even prettier than in the pictures! This was the perfect cozy retreat to get away from it all for my 29th birthday. Marie has thought of everything and the cabin is very well-stocked and very clean! Marie was also very responsive and attentive to anything we needed during our stay. Would definitely recommend the Nut House and will definitely be coming back!

Friendly people, welcoming mountains and a sense of place mark Berkeley Springs, West Virginia as a vacation getaway for all seasons and tastes.
Morgan County began its historic life as the playground of Thomas Lord Fairfax. Period letters and documents describe Fairfax's frequent visits to his spa on the edge of the wilderness. Along with many social gatherings, he soaked in the warm mineral waters of the springs and rode into the mountains. Fairfax was occasionally joined in these adventures by his friend and Virginia neighbor, George Washington. Today, Morgan County remains a favorite playground of folks along the East Coast. The area is blessed with wooded mountains and ridges, two rivers, several lakes and a wide selection of contemporary recreation activities for both individuals and families. Natural wonders abound in the area side-by-side with man-made recreation. As part of Morgan County's ecotourism, you can explore geology, birding, rare plants, hiking and the ecosystem of the Cacapon River on your own. Organized education opportunities are also available. Contact Travel Berkeley Springs for special brochures on the Cacapon River and Ecotourism in Morgan County.
GOLF The 18-hole, 72-par championship golf course at Cacapon State Park was designed by Robert Trent Jones in the mid 1960s. Meticulously maintained, it is one of the region's most popular public courses, open for year 'round play, weather permitting. Carts, driving range, picturesque putting green, pro-shop, clubhouse and challenging play which includes deer as obstacles are all part of Cacapon's appeal. Cold Run Driving Range is open Thursday through Monday in season.
WINTER SPORTS Cross country skiing is a popular sport on the mountain trails of Cacapon State Park, and along the many back roads of the county. Bring your own equipment.
HORSEBACK RIDING From Easter through Thanksgiving, mountain trail rides originate from Cacapon State Park. One of the most popular rides starts in the state park and crosses along the top of Cacapon Mountain for 10 miles to the historically and geologically prominent Cacapon Rocks. With its spectacular views of the Cacapon River Valley, the Rocks were a common destination for 18th and 19th century riders, George Washington wrote often of his daily rides there.
FITNESS & GAMES Rankin’s Fitness Center is open daily and welcomes walk ins for classes and the state-of-the-art machine room. Indoor basketball court and therapy pool. Public tennis, basketball and volleyball courts are found at Cacapon State Park and Biser Street Park in town. Paw Paw Town Park has a softball field and playground. The Morgan County Recreation Area provides five ballfields for league play. Spectators are welcome.

There are both spring and fall seasons for various game. Sleepy Creek Wildlife Management Area also offers primitive camping and a lake. Varying settings for canoeing, fishing and boating are found on the Potomac and Cacapon rivers, on area streams and on lakes at Cacapon State Park and Sleepy Creek Wildlife Area. The Ridge Fish Hatchery breeds famous West Virginia trout used to stock local lakes. Sleepy Creek Lake has bass, sunfish, pike and crappie.
