About this property

Cozy Rustic Mountain Home with Breathtaking views

Escape to Harrison Serenity Ranch, a unique, off-grid retreat on Palomar Mountain. This 2-story vintage lodge sits at 3,700 feet on 67 acres, offering breath-taking views of the ocean and mountains. Powered by solar and fed by an artesian well, this historic and magical place is where you can truly unplug.

Step inside your cozy lodge, featuring a ready-to-go kitchen with a gas stove and comfortable beds. Unwind on your private deck, soak in the stunning scenery, and watch for local wildlife like red-tailed hawks and deer. Inside, a wood-burning stove (with plenty of firewood provided) creates the perfect ambiance for a relaxing evening.

Explore the ranch's dedicated yoga deck and beautiful hiking trails, or discover historic sites like the ruins of Nate Harrison’s stone house. We're proud stewards of this land and live on-site, with a Camp Host available 24/7 to ensure your stay is comfortable and memorable. Located just 10 miles from the famous Palomar Observatory, this is the perfect place to recharge and reconnect with nature.

The journey here is part of the experience — After turning off CA-76, you’ll have about 6 scenic miles to go before reaching Harrison Serenity Ranch. The first mile of the road is paved, followed by approximately 5 miles of well-maintained gravel along Nate Harrison Grade Road. This road can be rough and single-lane in places, but it’s usually passable in a well-maintained passenger car. Please drive slowly, bring plenty of gas, and ensure your brakes are in good shape for the descent. You’ll know you’ve arrived at the entrance when, just before a sharp left switchback, you see a stone memorial to the ranch’s namesake, Nate Harrison, on the right side of the road, along with the Harrison Serenity Ranch sign., and rewards you with expansive views and a true sense of escape.

Pretty fun location to get to. I’d recommend low gears going down that Nate Harrison grade. Easier on the brakes. Good amount of bedding and seats. Had a nice grill to use. Could make fresh coffee in the morning. Has a nice fireplace but it never got cold enough for me to use it. Out door pit as well. Host was very helpful. Worth it.

My family described the house as whimsical. It’s a very cool home with amazing views from the deck. We loved staying there and the kids couldn’t get enough of the spiral staircase. It’s dog friendly, has a full kitchen, good shower pressure, and excellent as far as privacy goes for a disconnected weekend away. The road to the cabin is a rough dirt road that takes some skill to navigate from the north side. I didn’t travel from the west but am told it was also a bit of a tough dirt road though was travelled well in a Subaru. During our stay the only issues experienced was a need to clear the water lines because somehow old pipes were opened and used causing discoloration of the water. The host was available immediately for help with the resolution and very friendly in the process. After it was cleared, we were able to safely consume the spring water from the tap. Also there was a smell of septic outside with the wind just right which smelled like it needed to be emptied. I didn’t address this with the host though since it was not consistent nor could I determine if it was on the property. Overall everyone loved the house and we would happily stay there again.

It was a great stay. The location is excellent, and very much up the mountain on the "Fire Road". The views were spectacular. I only gave it a 4 on cleanliness because it seemed like we were the first to stay there is awhile. A few cob webs in the windows and a little hint of dust. Nothing I couldn't live with, but it was there. Sheets, Towels, Blankets all were clean. The instructions for SUV, pickup, or something with high clearance was 100% accurate. To get to the property you have to ignore the Apple Maps location, because it took us onto the reservation and up a "two track" about 3/4 of mile that ended in an orchard. Don't turn Left at the fork in the road. Continue on the Fire road up 5 miles. Then turn into the well-marked drive for the Glamping property. Don't go fast there becuase the driveway had spots worse than the fire road.
