About this property

Quiet village house, large peaceful garden, pool, all amenities, beaches 30 mins

Les Hirondelles was redecorated in 2021 and 22 and is a 19th century, stone built house, cool in summer, warm and centrally heated in the cooler months. It consists of two separate living areas on two floors. The ground floor is accessed from the front of the house and can sleep up to 4 people in a through lounge/sleeping area, and a separate large double bedroom together with a separate shower and utility room and toilet. Internet is available throughout the house.

The first floor is accessed by external stairs at the side of the house. It has four rooms that are all 13 metres square including the lounge, two double bedrooms (one with a king size bed the other with two single beds). In addition to this there is a well-equipped kitchen and a recently modernised (2022) shower room and toilet.

The house has Netflix, French terrestial TV (Orange) and UK satellite TV. It has many DVD's, book, games and jigsaws to help you relax and while away your holiday evenings.

The garden is on four sides of the house with many areas to relax in. The front has two private areas to breakfast, have a drink or take the sun towards the end of the day. The rear garden is laid to grass with 10m X 4M salt water pool and a tiled terrace. The garden is landscaped with trees, bushes and plants and gets the sun for much of the day. At the top of the house is a summerhouse that holds the pool and lounge equipment.

The house is in a quiet road 5 minutes from the centre of the village. The railway passes close by and the station is at the end of the road giving easy access to Beziers and Millau and Montpelier, Paris and Barcelona via a connection in Beziers.

There are plenty to do in the local area: It is rich with things to do including sightseeing, beaches, markets, vineyards, lots of safe walking routes, swimming, canoeing and shopping. This one of the most fascinating areas of Europe, with the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees close by. It has an exceptional climate and has an unusually rich wildlife, a spectacular coast, and wonderful history. You can visit mountains, rivers, lakes, cities, and villages, cathedrals, and Cathar castles. You can easily access Carcassonne with its huge castle, Montpellier, historic Pezenas, ancient Beziers, Narbonne, Perpignan, Nime, Arles, Avignon, Aige Mortes and the Carmargue, the costal villages and towns and even Barcelona all for day trips. There are also numerous cultural activities, along with French regional food specialties, and Languedoc wines. Local festivals range from bull-running to the carnival in Limoux and from water-jousting in the port of Sete to celebrating the 'Vendange' or harvest festival in September. Local villages are all well worth a visit.

You will never be short of something to do.

Schöne Unterkunft in gemütlichem Ort
Ein schönes Haus, schön gelegen. Restaurants fußläufig erreichbar - jede Menge Strände in 30-40 Minuten Fahrtzeit.

About the host

Hosted by Christopher Cooper

Host profile image
I am retired after a career as a teacher, lecturer, and self employed consultant working in education and teaching and lecturing globally. Much of my work is done with values based, community and member owned businesses such as co-operatives, building societies, schools. I'm lucky to travel a lot and work across Europe and in Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Africa, India and North and Central America.

Why they chose this property

It took 30 years to find this property during which time I holidayed in most parts of France and eventually settled on the Languedoc. Having done that it took another 5 years to find this house during which time I rejected so many others because they "were not the one". The house is peaceful, spacious, cool in summer and with everything you need close by.

What makes this property unique

The house has been significantly updated since the purchase and that included electrics, walls, ceilings and internal and external decoration. In the garden the pool was added, followed by the fully tiled terrace and the patio.

Recently, we have added UK satellite television with a wide range of programmes, the Internet and painted the outside of the house top to bottom.

The house is close to everything. In the village we have a great selection of restaurants and shops. medical services are easy to access.

Supermarkets are close by 5 minutes from the centre of the village or over in Roujan. Hypermarkets can be found in Beziers. You can walk, cycle or drive in pleasant lanes. Soak up culture and history or just enjoy the beach.

One thing is certain you will find whatever you want closeby!
