With beautiful vistas of Katama’s Waller Farm, steps to the bike path, and less than a mile walk/bike ride to South Beach, Herring Moon Cottage is a perfect setting for a magical beach vacation!
A charming, open, sun-lit cottage with two bedrooms, a full bath, great room, sun room and private deck with outdoor shower awaits your Island holiday. Turn left for South Beach (>1 mile) and right for town (1 ½ miles), both easily accessible on bicycle or by foot.
It’s less than a tenth of mile (5 minute walk) for a ride on a bi-plane at Katama Airfield or a meal at the restaurant there, and a short walk to Katama General Store with its welcoming porch and take out food. It is also a quick bike ride (4 minutes) to the Farm Institute for camp or food shopping, and it’s an easy walk or bike ride into Edgartown for restaurants, and shopping. The VTA, or Vineyard Transit Authority electric buses pass right by the house and can be waved down for a pick up and drop off. With our wonderful bus system, you can travel anywhere on the Island cheaply and safely. The addition of the electric buses has made them very quiet.
The cottage is cozy without feeling the least bit small. The bedrooms are newly decorated and have generous closets and new beds with all cotton bedding. The soaring ceiling and bright sun room are expansive while also providing a private retreat. There are games and books on hand to help you relax and unwind.
After the beach, enjoy the view from your private deck after your outdoor shower. It's not summer on the Island without an outdoor shower! There is a grill provided for your convenience.
Your hosts are an Island author and an charter fisherman, who are dedicated to making your vacation a success, without being obtrusive. Your cottage has it's own driveway, private entrance, front deck and private back deck and outdoor shower. They are more than happy to help you plan your vacation or just leave you alone!
Every guest will take home a signed copy of The Legend of Katama, the Wampanoag Creation Story of Dolphins to commemorate your Katama visit, and you might end up with some home-baked bread or bagels during your stay!
