About this property

Villa Barajas - Modern, Romantic Suite Near Park, Zoo, Coronado Island

Please…no Comic Con or other advance short term stay requests.

A home away from home in North Park, #13 on Forbes' list of the 'hippest' neighborhoods in the US. This 1926 historic Spanish villa ('Villa Barajas') combines old world charm with designer style and modern amenities in.

This beautiful second floor suite exudes charm and has a private balcony overlooking an historic church. Step onto the balcony each morning and enjoy coffee or breakfast and some of the best weather in the country. There are windows on all four sides, making the space bright, airy and serene.

This suite is the latest to come on line in this building and is comparable to other suites in the villa that have been in service since July, 2013. Please see these listing numbers for other positive reviews of our guests: 471900, 422746, 471897.

This suite boasts a remodeled kitchen with high end fixtures, a vintage stove with griddle and stone counters. There's a bistro style dining area for four and a large living room with high ceiling, abundant windows and architectural details. An auto-inflating queen air mattress extending from the sofa ensures a soothing night's sleep.

The windowed bathroom is newly renovated -- a sexy, black & white space with a deep tub, large pivoting mirror and eye-catching details. The bath can be entered from two sides, making it easy to share and maintain privacy.

Heat/AC system, dishwasher, disposal and washer and dryer in the suite. Beautiful original hardwood floors and new furnishings. The look and feel is artful, modern and sensual. A joyful way to start your day and a thoroughly comfortable, quiet retreat at night.

We also provide amenities -- K-cup and French press coffee makers, beach towels, blow dryer, iron/ironing board, luggage rack, books and games, shampoo and conditioner, shower gel, hand soaps, other essentials. WIFI and smart TV -- Stream Netflix and Pandora while you relax or enjoy a light meal in the suite. Or walk to nearby restaurants, pubs and cafes.

We have a 500mbps WIFI network in the unit -- nice and fast -- and 4 other networks in the building, all of which are accessible to all guests, so it's pretty much bullet proof service if your unit's network happens to go down.

Spacious grounds with gas grill, ping pong table and delightful seating areas. Walk a few blocks to restaurants, cafes, bars, fitness, shops and Balboa Park and Florida Canyon -- pool, golf, tennis, hiking and running trails, bike track, bocce courts, picnic area, playground, athletic facilities. On the farther side of the park, still walking distance or a short ride are the San Diego Zoo, Old Globe Theatre and the museums. 5 minutes to downtown -- Little Italy, The GasLamp Quarter, Seaport Village, Convention Center and Petco Park. 10 min to beaches and other major attractions, including Coronado Island and Seaworld.

Please note: Service dogs must be declared prior to booking, allowing owners to request and review documentation. Dates will not be held/reserved during processing. Our jurisdiction does not require that we accommodate emotional support animals at our temporary lodging property. No animal may be on property at any time, without owners’ prior acceptance.

Great location. Wonderful apartment.
Location is perfect for North Park, the Zoo, etc. The apartment is big, clean and worked perfectly for my wife and I. We hope it is available on our next visit!

Outstanding
Beth and Gail run a tight ship here. From the chic furnishing and styling choices, the unparalleled level of cleanliness to the possibly limitless hospitality - we could not have picked a better place to start our new lives in San Diego. We felt at home right away! My partner and I especially loved how we could enjoy natural daylight through the many windows, start our days with cups of freshly brewed coffee on the balcony and walk to a plethora of unique North Park and South Park cafes, restaurants and shops.

Overall clean. Body odor in bedding.
We traveled to San Diego from San Jose by road. We were two adults and two children. We had booked this property from July 15 - July 20. Things that I liked: 1. Living room and bathroom were clean. Overall kitchen was clean. 2. Many kitchen appliances were provided like blender, pots, pans etc.which proved to be very helpful in cooking dinner and breakfast, specially with small children. 3. The cleaning supplies were also provided like swiffer, counter top cleaners etc. which I used. 4. Very near to the zoo. Makes it easy with small kids. Things that I did not like: 1. The bed pillows, comforters etc. were smelling of body odor and were not fresh. I felt very uncomfortable in the queen bed due to the odor. The ones that my children used in the living room were also not fresh. I doubt whether the pillow cases, comforters etc were washed in the first place or not. If they were washed, the job was not done properly. Every night after a tiring day falling asleep was a problem. 2. Many utensils in the kitchen were not clean like pots and pans and their lids. There was some or the other old food particles stuck to it. I had to wash them thoroughly before I used them. 3. The description of the property talked about an air inflated bed in the living room. But we did not find one. After I messaged the rental property coordinator he mentioned that the sofa in the living room needs to be used as a bed. 4. Now coming to the final point! $50 was deducted from my damage deposit of $250 because 1 kitchen towel, 1 bath hand towel and 1 bath face towel were slightly stained - as in they turned little yellow when I washed them while doing laundry. I am still in talks with the property owner and the property rental coordinator on how to get my money back. The owner asked me to file a claim. After calling VRBO, getting a case number, when I sat to fill the claim and reached the end of it, it says it needs to be filled by the property owner and not the tenant!! It is august 21st today and my issue is still not resolved! I do not have time to waste. At the same time, I need to get my $50 for those three kitchen and bath hand/face towels that were stained. Lesson Learned: Being a very clean and organized person myself, I treat the rental property with the same enthusiasm and care! I will not go forward and do laundry of any of the property owner's items, however small they are - napkins!

Excellent location and comfortable
Beth and Gail were great hosts. They were responsive when we needed them. The AC wasnt working well initially but they called and explained what we were doing wrong and made sure we had a comfortable night. They also had beach towels and a beach umbrella which was extremely helpful. The place has been furnished nicely. Very cozy and comfortable. We went with two kids (5 and 3 years old) who didnt bring any toys but had enough space to run around and keep busy. Two TVs really helped with keeping them occupied too.

We love homes, vacations, people, and customer service. Making people happy in beautiful environments is our 'thing.'

Why they chose this property

When we saw this building, with its old world charm, wonderful light and airy spaces, and felt its good energy -- we knew that we had to own it, restore it and then provide beautiful, comfortable and 'cool' accommodations where people could relax, enjoy the Park, the Zoo, the many restaurants - all within the context of a local San Diego Urban Walkable neighborhood experience. And we are 10 minutes away from fabulous beaches!

What makes this property unique

This building is thought to have been owned a century ago by a nearby church and resided in by church members or out of town visitors. It is a beautiful building and stands out as regal yet simple. This combination of simplicity and beauty attracted us. Additionally, we were inspired by a European vacation during which we enjoyed a series of very special boutique hotels that combined historic architecture, modern design, luxury amenities and excellent service. We wanted to capture and share a bit of that experience with others, in an economical format.
