The Orange Fox is centrally located one of Orange's quintessential treelined streets. A 5 minute walk will get you to many of Orange's wonderful cafes and restaurants: The Greenhouse of Orange, Lolli Redini, Sweet Salt Sour, Zona, Byng Street Cafe. A short drive in the car you will find The Agrestic Grocer with wonderfully fresh and organic goodies and a cafe and restaurant and Bill Beans (best coffee in town).
There are also a few great boutiques for the shopoholics: Hawkes General Store, The Sonic, The White Place to name a few.
Lake Canobolas and Mount Canobolas are a must see, along with the Orange Botanic Gardens and definitely well worth a visit is Cook Park, which you can either walk to or use our free bikes. Orange is a very flat town and has many good walking or cycling tracks in town.
Most people come to Orange for the fabulous wine and food. Some of our favourites are: Phillip Shaw, Borrodell, De Salis Wines, Cargo Road Winery, Angullong, Mayfield Vineyard, Orange Mountain Wines, Small Acres Cyder, Heifer Station Wines, and the list goes on and on.
Twice a year Orange has wonderful festivals that should not be missed - The Orange Wine Festival in late October and Food Week in early April. Make sure you book your spot as events and accommodation book out quickly.
A short drive from Orange you can find some amazing towns to visit along with farms where you can pick your own berries. Our favourite towns are Milthorpe, Carcoar, Milthorpe and Molong. We still haven't explored them all so be adventurous!
Some Orchards to visit include Hillside Harvest, Norland Fig Orchard and Huntley Berry farm. If you want to take it a bit easier you can find all the local produce at the Orange Farmers market (held early in each Month in the centre of town where you can buy all manner of goodies including, fresh fruit, preserved fruit and chutneys, flowers and lots of cooked local produce, including the best bacon and egg roll I've every tasted!
About Roger Burrell
We (Roger, Kay and Tara) are proud to share our gorgeous cottage, The Orange Fox, with you. We live in Sydney and fell in love with Orange when we first visited in 2016. We loved the fresh air, the gorgeous countryside and the friendly country culture, not to mention the foodie and wine haven that it is! We quickly decided that we wanted to live in Orange down the track, and in the meantime hunted for the right property as our, and your, getaway retreat.
Roger Burrell purchased this House in 2017
Why Roger Burrell chose Orange
Why this property, a really good question. We hunted for the right property for about 4 months. This cottage speaks to the architecture of Orange, double brick home on blue stone foundations. The house has retained the original features in the front and has a sympathetic extension keeping with the character of the home. There are a number of streets in Orange that just make you go WOW - wide streets lined by the most beautiful trees. The Orange Fox is located in one of those streets. Lastly we loved the located, quiet street yet within walking distance to the city where you can access the marvellous cafes and restaurants.
What makes this House unique
We love old homes and The Orange Fox, retains a number of unique features from the era - high ceilings, picture rails, fire place and original floorboards. We love the small garden at the front which welcomes you and the little porch to relax whilst sipping your coffee. The back yard is just the right size for a weekender and the corregated shed adds a touch of country. Lastly we love the trees on the property - the huge Japanese maple in the back and the 2 silver birch trees which frame the house at the front.
