Barnardsville chalet

This place was great got our family and dogs. It’s very clean and the space is well laid out. It’s a bit dated, but everything you’ll ever need is there. It’s 20 minutes from Asheville.

Could be great, with a little help.

Frank the handy guy was the saving grace. Upon our arrival, we found a beautiful house glittered with so many plants there was even one in the shower. Then we found dirty dishes in the dishwasher and on Saturday morning we learned there was no water. We had 7 girls and no water for even one shower. Also the heater on the front porch was empty and had no propane. Last, the whole house felt spot cleaned, not professionally cleaned and the owner wasn't willing to comp us for the mishaps of the house. Now for the good: Frank was helpful, the girls that used the hot tub loved it, the option for the additional apartment was excellent to add as needed and the views were amazing!
Response from VrboOwner on 23 Mar 2020
All of us at the Chalet are saddened that the property did not live up to our guests’ expectations. When notified that the guests were unable to light the gas fireplace and the patio heater, Frank immediately went to the property to ignite both. That night the temperatures were well below freezing, by morning there was water frozen in the lines. When told of the issue, Frank promptly thawed the pipes and water was running within hours. In addition, a well company came on site to inspect not only the pipes but also the well head and pressure tank. Unfortunately, the guests did not communicate with me directly regarding the problems they encountered. The review and rating of the property was an unpleasant surprise to the entire Chalet team. I contacted this guest via e-mail to ask for specific details to enable us to make improvements and give constructive criticism to the housekeeping staff. Through our subsequent e-mails, I learned that the coffee maker was not functioning properly and that the cookware appeared “dirty”. Both have been replaced, and the cookware upgraded to hard anodized non-stick cookware that is dishwasher safe. Dirty dishes left in the dishwasher is an unacceptable oversight, one that will definitely not be repeated. I have made additions to the Chalet housekeeping staff, and all members are committed to providing the best experience possible for all guests.

Very good scenic views, spacious, good value.

Good value for the money. The house is fine; lots of space. The basement area is a nice gathering place but had a stale smell like a lot of basements. The hot tub was very nice. The views are good. Everything in the house was in good working order and just about any kitchen utensil one could want was provided. Overall, our experience was a positive one and the owner and the caretaker were vets nice and attentive to anything we needed. It is likely that we will rent this property again in the future.

Fantastic Couples Getaway!

We loved our stay at the Chalet. The house is as described/pictured & we couldn't have asked for a better location or view. We couldn't get enough of the the night view of the stars from the hot tub (we live in a city so this was an awesome treat)! The house has a really chill, old-school vibe, and it feels like a lot of great times have happened there... our stay was no exception! Would absolutely stay here again!!

July in the Mountains!

Large rooms, rolling grounds, and privacy make this a wonderful home in the mountains. The inside is clean, with comfortable beds and comfortable linens and towels. Criticisms are few... there were some old cabinets which had been left outside near the garage, detracting from the overall impression. The kitchen cabinets are a little dated, and there is some outside paint and grounds maintenance that could use some sprucing up, Show stoppers? Not at all. It's a homey, comfortable place where your dogs and kids can run and play. It's got a lot of room to eat and entertain, inside and out. I would recommend to others.

AMAZING HOUSE & VIEWS

The Chalet was like a home away from home... large rooms, yet comfortable and inviting. The Kitchen was supplied with everything we needed, the Recreation Room had entertainment for the entire family, and the Deck was irresistible! Plenty of space for us to gather together, as well as to sneak away for private time. We'll definitely be back and will recommend it to friends!!!

great relaxing trip

There were 6 of us total, three couples. We had a great relaxing trip staying in the mountains. Lots of space in the home. It was close to Asheville so we were able to go downtown and tour the bars and shops. Plenty of kitchen space to cook a meal in the evening. Owner was very helpful - home was very clean! We would stay again.

AWESOME stay for our Bachelorette Trip!

I can't say enough good things about our stay at the Chalet. This is a beautiful property inside and out, serene beautiful atmosphere and fantastic accommodations. The music was on throughout the house upon our arrival and walking into the house with the breathtaking mountain views was amazing! Every detail has been thought of...you have everything you need! We made great use of the hot tub and it is a nice one! Towels for the hot tub were in the basement ready for our use. Towels in the rooms for the showers. We were able to use the washer and dryer as well for our wet clothes when we got back from kayaking, too. This Chalet is just minutes from Navitat Zip Lining (HIGHLY recommend!) and it was so easy to get there. We went into town both nights to downtown Asheville. It's an easy drive to get there -30 minutes or less; not bad at all. The getaway from the city is DEFINITELY worth it to stay here! Our party of 6 was very comfortable. Comfortable beds and soft sheets! The master shower--uh-mazing! I would certainly stay here again. And the owner is very responsive to anything you need...just a text or phone call away! You have all details you need to get there well before your arrival time. Book it!

Xmas Jam Rental

More space then the four of us needed! Huge house, could use some updating but very laid back atmosphere and the porch was perfect! Easy to book and easy to find... Taxi will run you around 20 a person to downtown, we used Mr B's Transportation he can hold up to 6 people and great customer service! The hot tube was perfect for watching the meteor shower this weekend and with a great view of the hills... We would defiantly be renting again just have to bring more people!

Really Nice!

We stayed for 2 nights at the Chalet in early September for a bachelorette party; it was a great house, and everybody loved the hot tub and the beautiful house and grounds. Even the pull-out couch was very comfortable. We really enjoyed our time here, and it was close enough to downtown Asheville and hiking trails that it wasn't too long of a drive (maybe 20-30 minutes). The kitchen was pretty well stocked, which was a huge help because we made a lot of our meals there. Great house!

Greenville Family Reunion

We had a excellent time at your NC property near Asheville for our family celebration of our Mom’s 90th birthday. The whole family loved the place. Our group of 12 prepared and ate all our meals there. No one wanted to leave. We enjoyed the deck the most, especially late at night when the millions of lightning bugs sparkled in the cool air. The house has a nice open, welcoming feeling. The hot tub was great, as was the massage chair. The weather was perfect and the view was fantastic. We were close enough to Asheville to go back and forth to the Percussion Festival to enjoy my younger son’s concerts also. We hope to return in the future.

About the host

Host profile image
I've been in real estate for what seems my entire life. With parents as Realtors, it's always been a family business. I began appraising in college, investing in rentals at the age of 24, and have been a Property Manager ever since. I fell in love with this house and it's view during my first showing (as a Real Estate Broker)... luckily for me, my clients were not interested! Eight months later, I purchased the home and ~8 acres.

Why they chose this property

This property and house leave people in awe... from the initial impression coming up the driveway to the expansive living area leading directly to that 'magnet' of a deck... it has the ideal balance of peace, views, and easy access to downtown and other amenities!

It is, undoubtedly, one of the most special properties in the Asheville area! Built in 1986 as a retirement residence with a Swiss Chalet design, there are charming and unique details throughout. The coat closet and pantry lights come on when the doors are opened, skylights and a passive solar design provide a light and bright atmosphere, the ceiling soars to 18' in the Living room, and all rooms of ample size.

The kitchen cabinets were hand-made by the original owner and feature a 'Small Appliance Garage': simply open the door with the brass 'Coffee Maker' label, and pull out the trolley upon which sits the coffee maker! The spice drawer might amuse you, or inspire you... the dumbwaiter is non-functioning, but still fun to check out! How often do you see a modern version of Thomas Jefferson's invention?

Multiple indoor and outdoor 'living areas' make this home an ideal get-away for intimate escapes, family reunions, or for your visitors who prefer a home rather than a hotel.

Spacious and comfortable, there are options to relax in/on the... Den, Living Room, Kitchen with a 'pass-through' to the Dining Room, the Deck, a shady pergola, and 8 acres upon which to roam!

What makes this property unique

I've made improvements over the years, most of them cosmetic as well as the less exciting upgrades to the major systems (heat/AC, roof, electrical, etc.). Improvements are made every year to modernize the Chalet while maintaining its original charm and character. The house is fully functional and very comfortable. It has come a long way from the fixer-upper condition it was when I purchased it, and I continue to enjoy the process of converting it into my vision and having the ability to share this special property with guests!
