Thirlestane Farm Cottage & Barn luxury accommodation with stunning views
Thirlestane Farm Cottage & Barn-Cooroy
A quintessential farm workers cottage and barn renovated to an exceptionally high standard with a modern barn extension, for use as a holiday home set in 24 acres of peaceful rolling hills, close to the township of Cooroy & only 20 mins from the stunning beaches of Noosa Shire.
Sleeping up to 8 guests it is ideal for families or close friends to escape to the country and just relax & enjoy both the serenity of the farm but also enjoy the many activities that the Noosa Hinterland offers.
As a family we enjoy the beach during the summer and sitting around a fire in winter so 4 years ago we went searching for a property that we could all spend time together.
We found a little tired cottage sitting in 24 acres of an old dairy farm, high on a hill that offered the most spectacular views and was only 20 mins to the beach.
We bought it that day and have spent those last 4 years renovating the home and building a modern barn to an extremely high standard, each completed self contained with two bedrooms, with quality fixtures and fittings, built fire pits, an outdoor cinema, become proud owners of Highland cows, ducks, chickens, bees and planted orchards but we have been very careful not to lose the authentic feel of a working country home that we found so appealing the first time we set eyes on the property.
We plan to continue to improve Thirlestane in the coming years with the addition of a pool and further eco-cottages set around the farm, but for the time being we're just delighted to have found this wee jewel in the middle of the most beautiful countryside.

We had the most amazing time on our family holiday. The kids simply had the best time feeding chickens and cows and playing around the grounds. Will definitely be back
'Heaven on Earth' is how my mother described the view here at Thirlestane Farm. Beautiful surroundings in a quiet part of the Sunshine Coast - just 30 minutes drive from the hustle and bustle of Noosa. Very well appointed to a high specification. We hope to return next year.

Hany it was a pleasure to host your family, I’m glad your parents had a wonderful stay. We’d love to see you next year. Safe travels back to the UK.
What a beautiful experience my retreat guests and myself enjoyed at Thirlestane Cottage. From booking to check out, every moment was such ease. Tee is an amazing host and so approachable and has truly created paradise in the hills. The homes and grounds are fitted out so beautifully and it is so easy to become one with the surroundings and feel so chillled out!! I will be back !
This house and location is perfection in every way. You could not fault it. We had the best time. Everything you could need was supplied - it was like staying in someones home. The little decorative touches were beautiful and the location and view. WOW. Thanks Tee!
My new favourite place to stay! The outdoor cinema was so perfect at night, the fireplace to stay cozy and the little touches of everything made the stay feel so personal and special.
We had a lovely weekend at Tee and Stephen’s home, there were so many great spots inside and out to sit and relax, with views in all directions to enjoy. Sitting by the fire pit with wine and cheese watching the sun go down and the stars come out was a highlight. Thank you for sharing your farm with us.

Hi Chris and Karen, it's our pleasure. Hopefully you can come back again in the future. Tee
After a decade of staying at different holiday homes once or twice a year in south east Qld, this gorgeous property is by far the best I’ve ever seen or stayed in. As others have said, it has a great feel and it’s the perfect combination of homeliness and neutrality. Everyone so comfortable and well appointed. Loved all the little sitting areas inside and out - and tried out every one of them! Great lounge and bed and linens. It was incredibly spotless also - a five star property in every way without any pretension! Host Tee was fantastic and super responsive. Can’t rate it highly enough (although somewhat reluctantly as I’d selfishly prefer that word doesn’t spread too far!) Thanks for a truly perfect getaway!

That is such an amazing review-we’re so glad you enjoyed your stay with us-we hope to see you again soon at our wee bit of serenity on the hill
Great property for the family that likes to get away from it all, but still have it all! Lovely and clean with all the modern comforts. We had the most amazing time star gazing, doing puzzles, exploring the region, and roaming the property looking at all the wildlife. The pastries and good coffee in Cooroy a few minutes down the road was a bonus!
The cottage has been renovated to perfection and is an ideal place to escape for a few nights with the family. Our children (aged 4 and 7) loved the green space to play and we all enjoyed the picturesque views of the surrounding hills, country air and serenity. We will definitely be back!
Beautiful property, very peaceful and a great place so spend quality time together as a family.

About the host
Hosted by Tee Tait
Originally from Scotland we have owned and run award winning Guest Houses but following our move to Australia in 2004 we chose to enjoy the hospitality of others for a change!
However, last year we took the plunge and bought our own holiday home in beautiful Noosa Shire and we now wish to share it with people who like us, enjoy the serenity and beauty of the country but wish to visit the nearby beaches spending time with their close family and friends.
We purchased this cottage in 2017
Why they chose this property
As a family we enjoy the beach during the summer and sitting around a fire in winter so last year we went searching for a property that we could all spend time together.
We found this little tired cottage sitting in 24 acres, high on a hill that offered the most spectacular views and was only 20 mins to the beach.
We bought it that day and have spent the last 12 months renovating the home and adding a modern barn to a high standard, with quality fixture and fittings, built a fire pit but have been careful not to lose the authentic workers feel of the home that we found so appealing the first time we set eyes on the property.
We plan to continue to improve Thirlestane in the coming years with the addition of a pool and further eco-cottages set around the farm, but for the time being we're just delighted to have found this wee jewel in the middle of the most beautiful countryside.
What makes this property unique
What makes this cottage unique The setting of Thirlestane allows you to be ideally located to the main roads and attractions of the Sunshine Coast with only 7 mins to the centre of town and 20 mins to Noosa, however the real appeal is being able to sit at a fire pit and watch the most amazing Milky Way that appears directly over head ever evening and to watch the most amazing sunrises over Mount Cooroy every morning.
Our Cottage and Barn has been genuinely renovated to suit our family needs and desire and therefore no money has been spared in ensuring the comfort and quality of our holiday home.
With 24 Acres to wander around, a dam to fish in, and no-one close by to disturb your retreat, feed our friendly highland cows, Hamish & Maisie or collect your own eggs from the ducks and chickens, Thirlestane truly is the most magical place to unwind and enjoy the company of your friends and family
