Hello and welcome to our home at Coral Hill!
Our family (the Clemetsons) are originally from Port Maria and we can trace our roots back to the early 1800s there. We have a website where you can check out our family history and a history of the area at I grew up in Kingston and graduated from St. Andrew High School for Girls. We spend our time now between the US where I am a physician, and Port Maria. Much of the land where the present town is located once belonged to Frontier Estate where my grandmother and all her ancestors were born and where our family burial plot is located. Robert Clemetson, once a ship's captain, became co-owner of Frontier when slavery ended in 1865. He was born in 1805, the freed son of a British plantation owner and Eliza a quadroon slave.

Why they chose this property

We bought this house to return to our heritage and help to bring a sense of history and more pride to this area. Many in Port Maria are still unaware of the contributions of their native sons to history. My cousin David was perhaps the first man of colour to be commissioned as an officer in the Regular British Army and while a student at Cambridge volunteered in 1914. He was killed 56 days before the war ended in Sep of 1918 and is buried in France. You may find a monument to him in the family burial plot on Frontier and also his name is at the top of the war memorial cenotaph next to the parish church in Port Maria. Another cousin, Alan Goffe helped to discover the polio vaccine and worked with Dr. Sabin both in the US and UK to do so.

By staying at Coral Hill you will help to contribute to our fund to help to revitalize the area and rebuild Fort Haldane. We would like to establish a museum and visitor's center also there.
