A Historic Property with Character & Story:
The farmhouse built in 1875 by John Riggsbee and documented in the Chatham County Historical Records, this farmhouse sits on land rich with local history. The nearby John Riggsbee Cemetery is a quiet reminder of the deep roots of this property. The property was then renovated and built onto in 2008.

One of the most special features of our property is our renovated tobacco barn, incorporating original wood dating back to 1825. The barn has been thoughtfully restored into a welcoming gathering space that guests consistently say becomes the highlight of their stay.

The Setting: Peaceful, Scenic & Private:

From the back porch, you may see horses frolicking in the neighboring pasture and you can listen to the sounds of the backyard water feature (while you say 'hello' to the fish). During warmer seasons, beautiful water lilies bloom across the water’s surface. Enjoy your morning coffee on the back porch, relaxing under the trees, or gathering in the barn at sunset, the outdoor spaces invite you to unwind.

About the host

Host profile image

Hi there! We’re the Hirshs’, Glenn and Elizabeth, and we’re originally from northern Virginia, with a 7 year stop over in San Diego. We are now empty nesters and very much enjoy RVing so becoming a host has led us to our next RV adventure.

For us, hosting isn't just about providing a bed for our guests, it’s about sharing the spirit of Chapel Hill and our property with people from all over the world. We love being a host because we get to curate an experience that makes travelers feel like locals.

Whether it’s pointing you toward the best hidden-gem restaurant or ensuring you have the farm experience while being minutes away from the action, we’re dedicated to making your stay seamless and memorable.

Why they chose this property

When we first moved here, we immediately fell in love with the peacefulness of this neighborhood. We chose this specific spot because it offers the perfect balance of peace and quite, while also being close enough to the action in Chapel Hill and Durham.

What we enjoy most is the 'farm' feel of this home in every way - the way coffee tastes on the back porch in the morning while listening to the sounds of the birds and the water trickling down to the pond. It’s a unique experience for every visitor, and we wanted our guests to experience that same sense of serenity.

What makes this property unique

This property is filled with beauty, character and history. When people visit, they comment that "the energy" of this land is so good. We feel it as well

From the 1875 modernized farmhouse that makes up the home on our property to the “Bourbon Barn” where families connect, we’ve focused on creating an 'experience' rather than just a rental. You might find yourself sitting at the “Barn” sipping a cocktail, or relaxing on the back porch listening to the evening frogs, or watching the sun rise on the front porch while watching the neighboring horses eat their hay.

We believe your visit here allows you to step away from the hustle and bustle and focus on the important things in life, whether it’s a graduation, sporting event, or visiting family and sharing the farm life with them.

Oakley Farm is that special place your family will talk about for years to come.
