About this property
Historic 1900 Beauty - Walk to Uptown Dining & Riverfront -Close to Fort Benning
Step into 1900 and experience the gracious charm of the Downtown Historic District's golden era -with all the comforts of today. This lovingly restored home celebrates it Victorian heritage with offering modern travelers everything they need.
The best part of this house is its history and location. We dedicated a significant amount of time and thoughtfulness to honoring the home and the Downtown District's historic journey. Columbus was an active industrial town, with a predominance of textile mills. Railways moved goods and workers in and out. Though many of the mills are no longer active and they have now been restored and are used as shops, restaurants, lodging, and loft-style homes, the utility of the railways has not given way. The tracks are several blocks away and guests will still hear the periodic distant sound of the trains' horns, mostly during the mornings and afternoons, but occasionally at night. We love these sounds as they provide the home with a connection to the town's history.
This home's original owner began its build in 1897 and it was occupied as a full-time home in 1900. The original part of the home has the 5 coal fireplaces that once kept families warm as well as the amazing floors that have supported the weight of many working men, loving women who cared for their families and homes, and children running about for 125 years. Most all the windowpanes on both levels are the original glass. You can see the bubbles in the handmade panes. The back of the home, which currently houses the kitchen, back foyer, and first-floor bathroom was once the porch. As families lived in this beautiful home and modern plumbing and even electricity became available, they added on to the dwelling to embrace the comforts we all think of as essential. You can even tell there is the slightest of slopes to these rooms in the back of the house, consistent with its former life as a porch.
And speaking of porch, the front porch is the calling card of this property. Coffee is best enjoyed on the rocking chairs, enjoying gentle breezes and morning sunshine. This is our favorite space of the house and we know you will love it too.
The home has many touches of vintage and antique items that were sourced over time at local antique shops and estate sales. Many of the items speak to days gone by, and we hope you can feel and appreciate the history like we do. There are antique pieces of furniture that are hand-worn. You can just tell that many hours have been spent relaxing, reading, and maybe taking a well-deserved rest in them. We left these pieces as we found them, with their flaws, scratches, dents, and dings, as this tells us these pieces were well-loved. Music and time spent together were an important part of families in the early 1900s. To honor that and perhaps provide our guests with some similar moments or to be able to refresh a memory or two of some of your own past, we have provided a vintage-inspired record player, many old albums and books, and some board games. We hope these will be enjoyed and preserved so all our guests can enjoy them. We are excited to offer this beautiful home in the most incredible location.
As for the location, it cannot be beat. In the heart of the Historic Downtown District/Uptown area, everything you could need or want to see is within walking distance or a short 5-10 minute car ride. This area is filled with shops for local artisans, boutiques, restaurants, and the very popular Riverwalk. The Convention Center is within walking distance, as is Columbus State University. Broadway, which is "the classic Hallmark channel" downtown street, is also a few minutes' walk away. We fell in love with the property's location and feel fortunate to be able to share this place with our guests.
Please review the House Rules before booking. We want all our guests to have an exceptional experience, and this requires some rigor in the oversight of the property. There is nothing overly exceptional about the house rules, but we do take them seriously.
We would be honored to host you. In advance, thank you to those who choose our property. We are committed to making your stay an experience that will be remembered.

Why they chose this property
This property is very special with it being located in the heart of Columbus in the Historic Downtown District, also known as Uptown. The neighborhood has quiet tree-lines streets and sidewalks where the neighbors still know each other and greet passersby with a warm "Hello". Columbus was an active industrial town, with a predominance of textile mills. Railways moved goods and workers in and out. Though many of the mills are no longer active and they have now been restored and are used as shoppes, restaurants, lodging, and loft-style homes, the utility of the railways has not given way. The tracks are several blocks away and guests will still hear the periodic distant sound of the trains' horns, mostly during the mornings and afternoons, but occasionally at night. We love these sounds as they provide the home with a connection to the town's history. This property is in a very walkable location with restaurants, shoppes, boutiques, and the very popular Riverwalk where white-water rafting, walking paths, and the scenic views are sought after. Also within walking distance or a short 5-minute car ride is the Springer Opera House, Performing Arts Center, the Convention Center, and many sports venues. The city limits the number of properties that are permitted to be offered to short term guests in this neighborhood, so it is a unique opportunity to be in this special location. This property offers an unbeatable and safe location with timeless character.
