About this property
Miller Oceanfront Retreat | Salt + Arbutus Cabins
Escape to nature and unwind in the Salt and Arbutus Cabins, perched on a bluff right on the ocean on beautiful Bowen Island. This is a one-of-a-kind retreat that combines the charm of a woodsy cabin with the magic of oceanfront living. Take in breathtaking views of Howe Sound inside and out, with waves lapping at your doorstep. The newly updated warm and cozy interiors offer a classic feeling that invites relaxation. Perfect for family and/or friend gatherings of 4-6 people in separate cabins.
We respect your right to quiet, private enjoyment of our beautiful property, but we are only a phone call away if you need anything at all! Please reach out to your host at any time during your stay. Her contact information will provided at booking.
We are in the Millers Landing area of Bowen Island—very close to the main town of Snug Cove, but a world away in terms of quietude and the feeling of being up front and personal with nature. David Road is a small, residential street that winds along the coast, and our family property comprised of a few cottages hugging the hillside that drops dramatically down in to the Howe Sound. We have ocean access via stairs to the water. You can see neighbours on both sides, but the cottages are situated ahead of them and so the space feels very private.
There are 2 cabins at the bottom of the staircase beyond the parking area. They are completely private and self contained. Park in the private driveway and walk to the top of the staircase that leads down to cabins. Full instructions will provided at the time of check in.
Welcome to our beloved family oceanfront property on beautiful Bowen Island. This listing for the Miller Oceanfront Retreat includes our two main cabins situated on a high rocky bluff directly above the sea. Being so close to the water and the sweeping views of sea and the Coastal Mountains are what make this place special. If you want a unique and memorable experience of coastal British Columbia without travelling too far from Metro Vancouver, our property on Bowen Island is a solid choice for groups of 4-6 people.
The main "Salt Cabin" offers a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom with tub/shower combo, wood-burning fireplace, bedroom with a queen bed and gorgeous ocean views, and large patio with comfortable dining and lounge seating, a propane fire table, and BBQ. There is a quality pull out sofa bed if you need more sleeping space. Sleeps up to 4 people in 1 bedroom + sleeper sofa in living room.
The "Arbutus Cabin" includes a queen bed situated to take in the ocean views, a private bathroom (no shower), and coffee/tea bar. It is just steps away from the Salt Cabin. It has its own patio with cozy lounge furniture. Sleeps up to 2 people in 1 bed.
Just below the Salt + Arbutus Cabins is the Bunkie Cabin—a self contained tiny sleeping cabin with just enough room for two twin beds and a shared bedside table between them. It has a woodsy, cute feeling and is perfect for kids or teens who want their own separate space. This is an optional add on, so please inquire about adding it if you are interested in using those extra beds.
All cabins feature sweeping views of Howe Sound—you can't get closer to the water. We frequently see whales, sea lions, seals, and all sorts of other marine and bird life. Sunrises over the coastal mountains are enchanting, and the backlit mountains at sunset provide a gorgeous ambiance for nighttime patio meals. There is access to the water down the stairs, via rocky terrain. Kayak, swim or fish from the rocks! Relax by the water, unwind by the fire inside or out, and enjoy a serene island getaway. Watch the moon and sunrise from any of the outer decks, sip coffee overlooking the ocean while watching the eagles soar overhead.
If you need more space, there's also the option of inquiring about the availability of the Cedar Cottage, which is your hosts home at the top of the property. It has a bedroom with a queen bed, a cozy living room with a sofa bed, and a full kitchen. It available for occasional bookings for larger groups.
One of the two Bowen Island busses will stop by request near the entrance of Miller Road and it would take maybe 10 minutes to walk to the property from that drop off point. There is no Uber or taxi service on the island. It is recommended that you bring your car to take advantage of all there is to see and do on Bowen, though it IS possible to come to this property without a vehicle by bus, bike (rent and eBike from Bowen eBikes), or on foot. We can provide maps that will get you here via small roads and trails, including crossing one of our favourite nearby beaches.
In the cooler months, you must be comfortable with using a wood stove to heat the Salt Cabin—firewood and kindling are provided. There is electric, baseboard heat in the Arbutus Cabin.
There are several stairs to access the cabins from the parking area, so please make sure you are able to handle stairs.
We allow a maximum of 4 guests. If additional visitors are expected, please check with your host to get approval.
No parties and quiet time between 10pm-7am to respect the peace and enjoyment of our neighbours.
