Welcome to "The Retreat @ Koduko Sanctuary", a serene haven nestled within the vibrant Koduko Sanctuary.
The Retreat @ Koduko Sanctuary features 3 bedrooms, each offering stunning sea views and sunset vistas. With 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms with 2 hot water showers, the house has a maximum occupancy of 10 guests, ideal for various group configurations, whether it be couples, families, or friends sharing the space.
You will enjoy the entire house, with amenities including breakfast supplies:
- Blue (Master) Bedroom - 1 king bed with mosquito nets and ensuite bathroom –
- Yellow Bedroom – 2 queen beds with mosquito nets and shared WC/Bathroom –
- Orange Bedroom - 1 king bed with mosquito nets and shared WC/Bathroom –
- In addition, a sofa king size bed is available in the living/dining room – Can accommodate 1
couple.
Please note that The Retreat @ Koduko Sanctuary operates as a self-catering guest
house and is not a full-service hotel or resort.
While our kitchen is well stocked with all cooking utensils and equipment and the basics - oil, coffee, spices, pasta, or rice-, before driving you to the villa, our driver will bring you to a grocery store in Kota Kinabalu where you’ll have most of choice of western products and drinks.
“Koduko Sanctuary” is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the beach and nature, and activities are plentiful:
- beachcombing
- nature walks.
- water sports
We have masks, fins, snorkels, and life jackets of different sizes + inflatable kayak and paddleboard that you can use to enjoy our secluded beaches.
PRIVATE BEACHES:
North Beach - This beach is the one just below the house, but the 1km walk can take 20 minutes as you have to follow a steep road down as the hill, but this beach has road access, the Caretakers
can drive you down. The sand is nice here and the north side of the bay has a nice shallow reef that is great for snorkeling when the ocean is flat. We love this beach.
South Beach
- From the corner of our estate, there is a trail that will bring you to South Beach. The trail takes less than 10 minutes, and the last 100 meters is steep getting down
to the beach. This beach is beautiful and the largest, and you will never see another soul at this beach as there is no road access, and the only trail leads from our “Koduko Sanctuary”.
Both beaches are great to pack snacks, drinks, and lunch and head down for a beach day on the South China Sea. It is truly incredible to have such a beautiful beach private for our
guests.
Diving / Snorkeling - For diving enthusiasts, our neighbors at Bigfin Divers Beach Resort are just a short journey away, involving a 10-minute off-road drive or a forest walk.
If you are interested, we can assist with helping you book this, and they may even pick you up from the beach.
Walking -
Behind our land, there is a small rubber plantation that has a great ridge road for
morning / afternoon walks that deliver beautiful views of the coastline, colorful birds as you walk the dirt tracks on the forest edge. There is a great loop trail that bring you around the rim of the valley, and then down to the small village before coming back up the hill to the house. This is 4km in total and is has some beautiful ocean views of Usukan Bay.
Birds and wildlife -
Birds and animals are common around the house. At night, you will
hear barred eagle-owls, large-tailed nightjars, and sunda scops owls singing from the forest. Primates can be seen around the forest edge. The 2 primates that you see during the day are long-tailed macaques and silver leaf langurs. Nocturnal animals include civets, western tarsier, slow loris, and more. There are many wild fig trees in the forest around the house, and when these are fruiting, they attract an array of green pigeons, barbets, malkohas, and more. Early mornings are spectacular for birdwatching along the forest edge.
Indoor activities:
Connectivity: There is good phone signal at the house. If you go down to the beach, there is no signal.
Highspeed WIFI is available in the house. The network is Starlink and there is no
password to connect.
Card games and books are available if the rain is too heavy to enjoy outdoors activities.
Please note that there is no phone signal on the beaches.
