About the host
Hosted by Brendan
My family has been coming to Eagle River for five generations — it has always felt like home. A few years ago I purchased a former summer camp property on the Deerskin River and rebuilt it from the ground up into what is now The Cub House.
Hosting here feels personal. This is a place I’ve loved my whole life, and I enjoy sharing it with guests discovering the Northwoods for the first time. I’m based in Chicago but always reachable and happy to share local recommendations if you want them.
Why they chose this property
Scattering Rice Lake sits at the mouth of the Eagle River Chain — 28 lakes connected by rivers and channels that you can explore by boat for days without retracing your route.
The Deerskin River runs along the property before opening into the lake, which means the water in front of the dock is protected with very little boat traffic. It’s quiet and tucked away, but still connected to everything.
In winter, snowmobile trails are nearby, and downtown Eagle River — restaurants, bait shops, and the famous World Championship Snowmobile Derby — is just a few minutes away. The property itself is wooded, giving you privacy without feeling remote.
What makes this property unique
The Cub House was rebuilt from the ground up in 2025 on the footprint of a former summer camp lodge. We kept the soul of the property and redesigned everything else.
Inside you'll find vaulted ceilings, architectural beams, a chef’s kitchen with an 11-foot island, a 60x48 soaking tub in the primary suite, and a gas fireplace you’ll want to leave on all day.
Outside, lit woodland pathways lead through the trees to a private dock at the water’s edge. A hillside swing overlooking the river has become a favorite spot for morning coffee or sunset photos.
