This property is such a gem! We have made so many special memories here over the years. The beach is perfect for young kids and the house is always clean and well stocked. The screened in porch is the star of the show.

Perfect stay every time

This was our 4th visit to cedar island, and our 3rd time staying at this property. The space is always clean and beds are comfy. Easiest walk onto the beach and there are never too many people around you.

Hidden gem

Very thoughtfully designed and perfect! Layout, lighting, convenience, comfort and just downright beautiful. We really enjoyed staying here and plan to come again with more family members. Already loved the area but this home really sets the tone for a wonderful stay no matter what your interest. Even the three Martin houses make it wonderful to sit out on the porch and watch against the backdrop of the sound of the beach. Just beautiful and again very well thought out design of everything!

Excellent vacation spot!

The house was very clean and comfortable. The beach and neighborhood was quiet and private. Overall this was one of the best homes I've stayed in and the most peacefull!

Perfect Vacation

We absolutely love staying here! It’s perfect for our two boys (5 and 2 years old) and dogs. It’s nice to get away to a nice quiet cottage, so many other places are crowded this time of year.

Perfect house for our weekend away, plan on returning. Beach has perfect shallow water for toddlers. Kitchen was stocked with all the pans/utensils we needed to cook. Loved the screened in porch.

Overall nice experience. "Dog Kennels" could use some work. If planning on fishing make sure you schedule on a full moon for high tide.

Just what we needed

We had a great stay. It was the perfect place to forget about the real world for a few days. The house was great, had everything we needed. Comfy beds. We spent lots of time playing ping pong! Loved coffee on the screened in porch every morning and the beautiful sunsets every evening. We will definitely be back!

A relaxing private beach vacation

We had a wonderful time here. The house was clean and comfortable, well appointed with towels, kitchen items, beach chairs, games, etc. Beds were comfy. Screened deck is huge and gives a beautiful view of the sound. Sunrises with a cup of coffee was my favorite thing of the week. Water is shallow and is safer than a typical beach for small children. The beach is so private too. We only saw others on the beach a couple times all week. Overall, we loved our vacation here!

A true gem!

We had a great time here! The house has a great design with perfect functionality! Especially for little kids; our son is almost 2 and it was easy to cook, relax and keep an eye on him. He LOVED watching the ferry come and go! The porch and beach are simply blissful! We saw blue crab, small fish, and hermit crabs in the shallow water! At night you can see all the stars and we saw a few planets too! We loved the remoteness and serenity of Cedar Island at your home! Thank you! Can't wait to come again!

We had a terrific time at this charming sound-side home on Cedar Island. The house worked perfectly for 5 adults with room to cook, read, and best of all, spend hours on the fantastic screen porch. You are only steps from the water which was tranquil and beautiful. Cedar Island is not a traditional beach and it is quite remote. Be prepared. But if you like getting away from the crowds, you may love it as much as we do. Strongly recommend a day trip to Cape Lookout with a rental ATV. We also had a really fun horseback ride at the nearby stable. The house is clean and well equipped. Can’t wait to return!

Great Beach House

Fantastic location, right on the beach. Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms. Pet friendly. Mostly a quiet location apart from the occassional truck and ATVs driving on the beach and parking for the day - one parked right in front of our walkway to the beach! We did have one problem in the house and the owner was very attentive to our request for help. Recommend catching the ferry to Ocracoke for the day. Groceries at Walmart is about an hour's drive from the house. Loved the area but be aware it's very remote (which was perfect for us). The best room of this house is the screened in porch watching the Purple Martins and the Sound.

Wonderful Experience!

My family (husband, 14 year old daughter and 8 year old son) booked this house for our first ever real family vacation and first time visit to the East Coast. The house is wonderful. Very clean, well kept and comfortable. Felt like home the week we were there. The screened in deck was our favorite spot to just sit and watch the waves, birds and ferry and the picnic table on it made for a great spot to eat and play board games! The walkway to the beach made for easy access and the beach was clean and most of the time we had it to ourselves. While we could see the ferry, we could only hear it when we were outside and even then it wasn't very loud. The added bonus of corn hole and ping pong under the house made for great rainy day fun! We will definitely be going back to Southside Bungalow for another visit!

Get away from it all

If you like the beach, but want to get away from the typical hustle and bustle, this is your place. The house was very comfortable for 5 adults and 3 small children. The kitchen had all the essentials (large fridge was nice), but be sure to bring your groceries before you get here (there is a limited selection at the gas station). The view from the porch is spectacular, with sunrise and sunsets, and you have a constant view of the water over the sand dunes...and the kids loved watching the ferrys come in and out. The water on the beach is shallow (basically ankle to knee-deep everywhere) which was an endless water playground for my small children. If you want to take long hikes on uninhabited stretches of beach, head west, or head east (the other side of the ferry) to see the wild beach ponies. We brought our boat to fish with the kids, but they had just as much fun cast netting in the shallow tide pools. This place would be awesome for a kayaker. You might struggle getting a cell phone signal here, but sometimes that's a good thing!

Our favorite family vacation!

Thank you, Allen and Hollie, for sharing your beach home with us! I am not sure that I could dream up a more perfect location for a week to unplug and recharge with my family. We are North Carolina natives who have grown up vacationing on the beaches of NC and SC, and we now spend our summers sharing the coast with our kids. This, by far, was our favorite vacations with our family. The home is lovely — it is clean and comfortable. There was more than enough sleeping space for all six of us (2 adults and 4 young children). We came with the intention of disconnecting, so the less internet connection the better — but if you are concerned with WiFi, it was just fine. If you come for nothing else, come for the screened in porch and the almost isolated beach. Our dog and kids ran and splashed for hours each day. I’m sure there has never been a happier dog than our Border Collie who herded seagulls and jumped waves all week. We did an online grocery order at Food Lion in Beaufort, and picked it up as we passed through, which worked perfectly. Cedar Island is like a favorite new-to-you hiking trail you find — you’re torn between sharing with others, because you want them to experience the beauty, but selfishly you’d also like to keep it remote. Go and enjoy ... just leave a week or two for us!

Had a great time this is our second time staying here although the weather did not start off good the first 3 days with a nor eastern churning at out banks and kicking up the pamlico sound. The last part of our stay was perfect good place to back my boat in and charge my batteries and the beach out front is perfect for all of my little ones to play in the water. Thanks again

We had the best weekend stay. We have been going to Cedar Island for over 10 years, usually camping with the same group of friends. We have made so many memories and friends in the area during that time. This year however, our plans got changed due to an unnoticed leak in our camper ceiling and we were not able to stay all summer like we usually do. We were fortunate enough to be able to rent this beautiful place for the Labor Day Holiday weekend so we could spend the end of our summer with everyone. The weather was not the greatest, but it did not even matter, because we were in our favorite place on earth with all of our favorite people. Thank you Allen & Hollie for letting us stay at your beautiful beach house. Many, Many more memories were made that weekend too.

Great Property

We had a wonderful week. The beach area was great, we could walk out pretty far to two sandbars. Fishing was ok, some Croakers, pinfish, and Crabs. One amazing catch of the week was a 36 1/2 " Drum. Landed by my grandson. The first 2 days we had a lot of jellyfish, the rest of the week we didn't see any. The ferry to Ocracoke was a fun trip. Saw a large pod of dolphin on the way.

Great place, fantastic house will definitely rent again. Everything u need for a great beach vacation. Wide open beach our dog Maggie really enjoyed herself. And the purple martins were showing up.
