Interesting facts about Neugrad:

EIFEL NATIONAL PARK
In the “Wild West” of North Rhine-Westphalia.
Neugrad’s location is unique: on Germany’s western border—in close proximity to the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg—and directly adjacent to the 110-square-kilometer Eifel National Park. Under the motto “Let Nature Be Nature,” flora and fauna are left to follow their own natural laws here. This allows thousands of endangered animal and plant species to thrive once again. The expansive forests, stream valleys, plateaus, and wooded pastures provide a home for black storks, eagle owls, tawny owls, ravens, and beavers, among others. In early summer, bright yellow broom blossoms turn the national park golden; in the southern part, even orchid species are native. In the fall, the deer rut echoes for kilometres across meadows, valleys, and forests. On hikes, you’ll encounter old ash trees, chestnut trees, and wild cherries. So if you love forests, water, and wilderness, Neugrad is the perfect place for you.

VOGELSANG HISTORY
Revitalising the town together.
A holiday destination bordering a conspicuous complex with an inglorious history? Can we do that? We asked ourselves that question, too. Our answer: Not only can we do it—we want to.
First a training centre and stronghold for Nazi leaders, then a military training area for Belgian and UN troops for about 70 years: Neugrad lies on the edge of a complex with a turbulent past. This makes the present all the more striking and refreshing: Since the troops withdrew and the area was converted into a national park about 20 years ago, untamed nature has been reclaiming its space, while the developed parts of the site are now used by a colourful array of nonprofit and other organisations. New things are sprouting up everywhere, initiatives are taking root, and ideas are bearing fruit. You, too, can let yourself be surprised and moved by this during a stroll through the grounds.
Neugrad itself lies outside the complex and away from the hustle and bustle. Nevertheless, we’re delighted to play our part, together with our guests, in revitalising this place.

GETTING HERE
Far away and yet so close.
Neugrad is less than an hour’s drive from Aachen, Cologne, and Bonn. Speaking of cars: Neugrad is nestled in the heart of unspoiled nature, where life moves at a slower pace. Incidentally, the same applies to public transport schedules.
