About the host

Host profile image
Me and,Vernon (my husband), manage this rental, that is also our home. We're Ocala locals who designed this space to be the kind of stay we'd actually want ourselves — full of unique character, thoughtful local recommendations, and genuine care in every detail. I hold a PhD from the University of Florida, starting out in the Department of Tourism and Hospitality before shifting fields, and we've carried that hospitality training into how we run Vernon House. We deeply care about the people that chooses our home, and aim to bring that local community sense to their experience.

Why they chose this property

We fell in love with this pocket of Ocala because it gives guests the best of both worlds — a quiet, established residential street lined with mature oaks and historic homes, just five minutes from the energy of Downtown Ocala's restaurants, shops, and live music. It's the kind of neighborhood where you can sit on the porch in the evening and hear crickets instead of traffic, but still be minutes from a great dinner out.
What we love most is how central it is to everything that makes this part of Florida special. You're 12 minutes from Silver Springs State Park, 20 minutes from the World Equestrian Center, and surrounded by natural springs and forest trails, yet Publix and everyday conveniences are only 3 minutes away. It's a neighborhood built for people who want small-town charm and genuine local character, without sacrificing easy access to nature, culture, and good food — which is exactly the kind of stay we wanted to create when we built Vernon House.

What makes this property unique

Vernon House isn't a cookie-cutter rental — it's a genuinely preserved 1930s home with original hardwood floors and character you can't recreate in new construction, it is paired with modern comforts guests actually need. We designed and run this house ourselves, and one of us brings a PhD background rooted in hospitality, so every detail — from the layout to the local recommendations — comes from real hospitality training, not a cold template.
Beyond the house itself, it's built for togetherness: a private pool, outdoor pizza oven, and Blackstone grill for shared meals, plus a full game room with ping-pong and an arcade console for rainy afternoons or after-pool downtime. With 7 beds 1 sofa bed across 4 sleeping spaces, it comfortably hosts big families or groups without feeling cramped.
And because we're hands-on local hosts, guests get an insider's map to Ocala's best local spots — not generic tourist tips, but the places we actually recommend to friends and we enjoy.
