Redwood Butterfly Home Riverfront Seasonal River Access

Our riverfront getaway is completely updated so you can conference on hi speed WIFI then walk to the deck and watch osprey fishing in the river. The full kitchen has new stainless steel appliances including dishwasher, microwave, washer & dryer. Cooks will find the kitchen lacking for nothing. The handicapped access bathroom has extra large shower with built in chair. Our 2 bedrooms each have queen bed, perfect for 2 couples or a family with children. There is a fold down sofa in the living room which sleeps 2 small people, or 1 big person. The large deck overlooks the river with a gas grill for entertaining and dining alfresco for 6. We have an outdoor firepit with seating for 6. The house comes with parking for 4 cars. We install a seasonal river access of stairs every May - October. It is shared with the cabin west of us and located behind their home. The water between our place and the island is usually very shallow in the summer, but the river channel on the other side has water and a sandy beach year round. Perfect for kids to play in! Be sure to bring your water shoes, the beach is rocky. We provide life vests, sun umbrellas, camping chairs and float toys. We have comcast xfinity WIFI internet service in the cabin along with a smart TV, DVD player, WII consul + Games. Everything you need for a fun river vacation!

Great river front cabin

Loved the location on the river. We enjoyed kayaking and playing on the little beach and in the little “lagoon”. Close to Guerneville to grab some dinner, ice cream or play some mini golf. Our whole family had fun!

Beautiful relaxing stay

We had a wonderful time and being right on the river was delightful. We explored Patterson Point Reserve right down the street and had a great time canoeing.

Great stay!

We had a great time here in July. The place is surrounded by redwood trees, beautiful and peaceful. The neighborhood is very quiet. Very easy water access for us and our dog. The house is super clean, has everything we need, and even has washer & dryer, which is a huge plus. We would love to stay here again!

I was extremely disappointed with this cabin and would not recommend it.I booked this stay to celebrate my birthday with my family, including my 5-year-old grandson, and unfortunately it turned into a very upsetting experience. The cabin was noticeably dirty upon arrival. The furniture was very old, covered in stains that appeared to have accumulated over many years, and several chairs were broken. The couch cushions smelled strongly of dirt and dust. The kitchen supplies were sticky and appeared not to have been properly cleaned.The bathroom was also disappointing. The shower had an extremely small shower head that resembled an outdoor hose rather than a normal shower. The bed sheets were frayed and looked dirty, and the blankets had a strong odor, as if they had not been washed in a very long time. There was visible mold on the exterior patio area and around the windows.My biggest concern was my 5-year-old grandson, who has asthma. I was not willing to risk having him stay in an environment that felt dirty and potentially unhealthy, so I made the difficult decision to cut our vacation short and leave early.I contacted VRBO and requested that they ask the host to provide a partial refund since we were unable to complete our stay because of the property's condition. Unfortunately, the host refused and declined any refund.Overall, this was a very poor experience. Instead of enjoying a special birthday week with my family, the condition of the property ruined our vaca

My phone, text and email are on the VRBO site and the guide book at the cabin. M never contacted me at all. When my housekeeper came to clean the cabin she found a large fire had been built in our freestanding vintage fireplace despite instructions to only use duraflame logs. The fire was extinguished using our kitchen fire extinguisher and the site was left In chaos. I have photos. A couch throw was destroyed. I recommend no other owners rent to this individual.

First time in Monte Rio

The cottage was delightful! Very clean and well stocked with cooking supplies. The beds were comfortable. Instructions for using the property well layed out and clear. Loved the area and would definately return to this Redwood Butterfly retreat! Only downside was the river was very low and the beach had toxic algae warnings, so water play was sadly not part of the experience.

Our stay

We were very pleased with the house. It was very comfortable! Everything we needed was there. We hope to come again when we can. Someday we hope to get smarter than a smart tv. LOL We wanted to watch the Warriors playoff game and when travelling, to do that I guess one just has to subscribe to some costly sports channel. So we went to the Stumptown Brewery in Guernville which was a great place! And 2 days of golf at Northwood. It was a great trip. Thank you hosts!

Wonderful stay.

Easy, comfortable, functional, clean, well stocked with almost everything needing. Only a couple additions would have made this an ideal wheelchair accessible property: a ramp that met the height of the front door threshold and a handicapped height toilet. The possibility of arranging for other handicapped accessories would be icing on the cake. All and all, I would most certainly stay again in a heartbeat.

Serene beautiful family getaway

Quiet space under the redwoods backs up to the Russian River. The house was perfect for our family of 5 (3 young kids 2 adults) Large bathroom with a spacious shower, comfortable beds, laundry. The house backs up to the river and it is just a short walk down to the water and a beautiful secret garden of black berries, mint, yellow flowers, bees, frogs, deer and quail then a wonderful Rocky beach with 2-4ft water at the end of summer perfect for young kids to splash and play. We had the most wonderful time great memories forever!

Very relaxing spot

We had a great stay over New Years. Great location, close to Armstrong redwoods park, wine country, and Jenner. Really an ideal location. The house is very comfortable with a big kitchen, cozy fireplace, and comfortable seating area. A few small notes: there were certain must-have items that were out of stock when we arrived (dish soap, Jet Dry to make the dishwasher work) and we ended up having to run to the store and pay for huge bottles of these ourselves which was a little annoying. And it would have been nice to have darker shades in the bedrooms since the headlights of oncoming traffic shine right in the window. But otherwise all was great!

A bit run down on furniture, bedding, mattresses and kitchen utensils. Just had salt, pepper and coffee, vegetable oil. No basics including any plastic bags, tin foil etc.

Surrounded by Redwoods

We stayed for 4 nights in mid-September. It's a perfect location to get to the coast to kayak or more into wine country. Beautiful location, the house is surrounded by the tallest redwoods, and their Large back Deck overlooks the river, and the fog rolling in off the mountains in the morning is so calming and to be able to see the stars at night. The house itself is well-appointed and the living room was cozy. It has a nice open layout. While the house feels very private, there are no window coverings in the main kitchen/living room area, I was a bit freaked out because I watch too many horror films, :). But it was fine. just FYI The house itself is on a shallower part of the river if that matters to someone. One other thing of note is the wooden stairs down to the river/canoe. Be careful, not the best. We were able to use their outdoor outlet to charge our car. which is also one of the main reasons we chose this home.

The family has owned this cabin since 1964, we gave it a complete makeover in 2013.

Why they chose this property

Jim Melville won at Keno in 1964. He bought this double lot on the river & built the cabin with the winnings. It was completely remodeled in 2013 to update it. We kept the fireplace & refinished as much mid-century furniture as we could to match the 'Groovy' butterfly roof. We all agree with Jim that this area is as peaceful & groovy as it gets

What makes this property unique

Family fun has been happening here for more then 50 years. We sincerely hope it will continue for the next 500. Please email us with any questions about the cabin.
