Charming vacation home in the heart of the stork village, with a panoramic view and a swimming spot on the outskirts of town

The house is located right in the centre of town, right next to the church, with the village store and a restaurant within walking distance. Renovated in 2023/2024, the cottage features modern amenities; in the kitchen-diner, a custom-made table offers space for many guests. From the sofas on the ground floor, a view opens up over the landscape below Bergenhusen towards the high moor.

From the bedroom on the lower floor, a remote-controlled skylight offers a direct view of the sky and the trees. On the upper floor, a comfortable Cramer sleeper sofa accommodates two additional guests, and a foldable single mattress can be placed anywhere—for example, in the alcove in the upper room.

Outside, there are seating options on either side of the house that can be chosen depending on the sun’s position and your mood. On the south terrace, right in front of the kitchen-living room, you can gaze out into the distance while enjoying your morning coffee. On the east terrace, you can sit comfortably around the table, with the awning providing shade. A gas grill is available for a small additional fee. Three bicycles are provided.

Bergenhusen is known for its storks; starting in March, up to 50 storks occupy the nests in the village, and by June, the chicks start to make their presence known. The storks give Bergenhusen a “Bullerbü” vibe—in fact, all the cables were buried underground for their sake.

The village is located in the heart of the Eider-Treene-Sorge river landscape, which can be explored by bike on a variety of trails (bike map provided). The village’s swimming spot is just a few minutes away by bike, and a larger one near Meggerdorf is easily accessible by car. You can go paddling on the Treene River, and nearby Friedrichstadt is worth a visit (18 km).

Note: The stairs to the ground floor are not child-proofed. The panoramic windows are locked because there is no railing—but the view is unobstructed. The church bells ring in the village even at night—with a very beautiful sound.
