We loved the casa! The location is perfect with the ocean so close, the private pool and the sound of the surf. The house itself is simple but comfortable and ultra clean. Chepita is lovely and welcoming, and made our stay so cozy. The house is walkably close to restaurants and a super market but at the quieter north end of town All perfect for our family with 2 teenage girls. We’ll be back! muchísimas gracias!!!
Charming property with nature all around
The location was amazing. Tomas was very helpful with any questions we had prior to and during our trip and Chepita (the groundskeeper/housekeeper) was the sweetest and was always around when needed. Would definitely come back!
Thank you Stephanie for your kind words. You will always be welcome! It was my pleasure to host your family.
Great location in Santa Teresa ,market directly across the street. Perfect vacation getaway.
Location is great and very private. It could use a little TLC and updating. The ocean is the best temperature and the pool as well. The grounds are very well kept up,as well as the constant daily cleaning from the hard working fabulous Josefa aka" Chipita" , she is the best!!!! and saved us big time when we left our passports in the safe and only realized it when we were at the airport!,Thanks Chipita!!!!
Enchanting, Secluded Tropical Hacienda
We just returned from two weeks at Don Tomas' enchanting tropical hacienda where we had a spectacularly relaxing vacation! We thoroughly enjoyed the feeling of seclusion that his lovely home offers, while still being easily accessible to groceries and the funky coastal town of Santa Teresa (which has an array of exceptionally good restaurants!).
Our favorite activities included reclining on the wrap around porch to delight in the myriad of tropical flowers and wildlife, (iguanas, hummingbirds, butterflies, birds, squirrels, crabs) that abound on the unique grounds--which are also spectacular in that they are filled with ancient tropical trees, hanging vines and tropical flowers. The backdrop of crashing surf sounds are as soothing as the surfing is exhilarating! Returning from the beach to an outdoor shower, lovely private pool and porch hammocks was also a treat. The house is simply furnished, yet has all the basics that one needs--with a very comfortable queen size bed. Charming murals decorate the rooms and the porch houses a lovely sculpted column of intertwined goddesses. Josefa, the caretaker, is exceptionally kind and welcoming and was ever so helpful with whatever was needed--a caring and responsive hostess! We were enchanted, are telling others about this tropical beachfront gem of a place--and are already looking forward to our next trip there!
We had 2 wonderful months in casa don Tomas.
The house is simple but it has everything you need. Beds are comfortable and the kitchen is well provided. The photos of the property and the video are accurate. Josefa is a real gem and will keep it clean for you as well as she can provide you with a good laugh.
The true luxuary of this property is the location and the garden! Only a few steps away from the surf and with a supermarket only 5 minutes walk away. The garden is beautiful and the pool is very nice.
The owner has been very helpful when needed.
We had a very good time in the house with our 1 year old son and our parents.
The nightlife is electric in Santa Teresa with bars and music and fine dining all within walking distance of the house, It is possible to arrange with local vendors one day tours to the main points of interest in the area like the fishing village of Manzanillo, Montezuma, Mal Pais, Cabo Blanco and beautiful Tortuga Island and the list goes on, and on.

About Tomas de la Ossa
I was born in Costa Rica a few years back. At age 18 I left home and went to California, USA in pursuit of a better education. During the Vietnam War I joined the USMC and serve with the 1st Marines in Vietnam. Upon my return to the USA from overseas I attended California State University in Los Angeles where I studied International Relations. During the 32 years I lived in the Golden State I worked at different things among them: Played and sang with a Mariachi Band in a night club in Los Angeles, Was Director of Data Processing for a large Insurance group in LA. Toward the end of my self-impose exile in the City of Angels I served as Comercial and Public Relations Attache for the Costa Rica Consulate General in Los Angeles, as a Consul of Costa Rica in Los Angeles, and last as Costa Rica Director of Tourism for Western United States and Canada, before retiring and moving back to live in Costa Rica.
Tomas de la Ossa purchased this Cottage in 1985
Why Tomas de la Ossa chose Playa Santa Teresa
Being away from my native country for more than 30 years, I came to treasure from afar the natural wonders and the beauty of Costa Rica and its beaches. Santa Teresa was but a little fishing village lost in the wilderness of the Nicoya Peninsula. No one knew back then, not even me that the waves and the beaches of Santa Teresa were unique and the best in the country. It was love at first sight.
What makes this Cottage unique
When I first built my house it was just a place to come home to and spend a few days at the beach in total solitude before going back to Los Angeles to make a living. I have found Santa Teresa to be the perfect antidote to stress and the busy life. The four acres property of Wavebreaker Villa in Santa Teresa will offer you plenty of peace and the best surfing Costa Rica has to offer. One of the big advantages of staying at the Villa is that you are away from the busy part of Santa Teresa. The beaches of Playa Santa Teresa and further north are less crowded and hotels are more spread out. The pool of Wavebreaker beach front Villa has the best view of the ocean in all of Santa Teresa. Some of the most luxurious lodgings of Santa Teresa are found here. You can make extensive walks along the scenic, white-sand beaches, bathe in tide pools, or curl up in a beach chair or a hammock strung between swaying palm trees.
