About this property

Baroque manor house on the Szczecin Lagoon

Welcome to an enchanted manor house on the Szczecin Lagoon! Christoph Ludwig Henrici had this country house built as his retirement home around 1756, after spending over 30 years settling colonists in the area on behalf of the Prussian Crown. The Baroque half-timbered manor house and the garden, covering approximately 2 hectares, have been largely preserved in their original state.
The manor house is situated in a small village near the B 109, at the end of an avenue lined with old trees on the edge of the Ückermünder Heide, about twenty minutes’ drive from the lagoon coast and the picturesque market town of Ückermünde. The Baroque garden room, with its fireplace and Delft faience stove, has been repainted by the artist Claudia Hauptmann with large-scale paintings on canvas. Today it is used as a venue for concerts and art exhibitions, and by artists as an inspiring workspace.

The guest flat is situated in the west wing and comprises a hallway, kitchen, living room, bedroom and a comfortable bathroom. The large period windows and a glass door open out onto the park, and the flat is bathed in light from midday onwards. From the bed, you can look out over a lavender bed to the lawns, lilac hedges and mature trees of the Baroque park.
The furnishings have been chosen with nature and heritage enthusiasts in mind and reflect both the history of the house and its current use as an artists’ residence. A peaceful and cosy retreat, serving as a base for our guests to set off on walks or cycle rides through the countryside along the Haff coast, the Ückermünder Heide, the Brohmer Mountains, or straight from the house on foot through woods and meadows – or, of course, to Ückermünde or the Baltic Sea beach on Usedom (about an hour’s drive). The surrounding area also boasts a number of other fascinating natural and cultural sites, such as the shifting sand dunes of Altwarp, Lake Galenbeck, the restored moors in the Oder Delta near Bugewitz – home to the highest density of white-tailed eagles in Central Europe – and, right on our doorstep, the Stettin Lagoon Nature Park. The nearest shopping facilities are just a few minutes’ drive away in Torgelow (5 supermarkets) and Ferdinandshof (3 supermarkets); the nearest railway station is also located there, from which you can travel to destinations such as Berlin or Stralsund.

The flat is situated on the ground floor in a refurbished side wing of the manor house and is accessed via a separate entrance. The building, which is over 250 years old, was refurbished in accordance with ecological criteria; historical building materials were used, and the half-timbered walls are plastered with clay, giving the guest flat a pleasant indoor climate. The wide, reddish-shimmering floorboards and the bathroom, finished in black slate with a wooden washbasin, lend the flat a charming aesthetic. The décor combines modern technology with restored antique furniture and curious finds. Bed linen, towels and kitchen tea towels are included in the rental price.

The building is managed and maintained by a charitable association. From time to time, you may witness minor renovation and garden maintenance work, or come across artists at work. During the summer months, the main building can be viewed on weekday mornings by prior arrangement.

The Baroque garden, with its mature trees, wild lilac hedges, 250-year-old yews and swaying grass, forms part of the property and is available to guests, as well as to visitors, walkers and us. Garden furniture is provided and can be arranged as you wish.
