Ask a questionAbout Erik Mercer
My partner, Sandro, and I moved here from New York City while our dear friend Rachel was pregnant with our second daughter. Looking for a saner place to raise children, we chose Portland because my family is here and because it is a progressive place where we knew no eyebrows would be raised at two dads raising two girls. I am a social worker and Sandro is a writer and Italian teacher. We rent the house during the summer when we travel back to Sandro's home in Sardinia to spend time with his family, and give our girls the chance to immerse themselves in delicious Italian culture and speak better Italian than me when we get back even though they are 3 and 4...

What makes this House unique
When we initially asked our broker to see this house, he said, 'Are you sure? It's an oddball.' We insisted and realized as soon as we walked in that it's quirky layout, wonderful details and the absence of uninspired renovations were a perfect match for us. The house has undeniably good energy (verified by several of our hippy dippy friends and one psychic) that we felt right away. Pulling up carpets to find extraordinary wood floors and discovering that the fireplaces actually DO work were just the beginning of our love affair with this house. We dug it the moment we walked in and we dig it just was much 4 years later!
