Shorewood at Vosburgh’s Custom Cabin Rentals is a spacious, timber-style cabin overlooking Moose Lake, designed for families and groups who want room to gather while experiencing the best of the Northwoods. With soaring 20-foot vaulted ceilings, a large screened porch, beautiful lake and sunset views, two bedrooms plus a spacious loft, and room for up to 10 guests, Shorewood is one of our best cabins for a classic week at the lake.
Even better, you’ll be staying at one of Ely’s few cabin resorts located directly on a Boundary Waters entry lake. Vosburgh’s sits on Moose Lake—BWCAW Entry Point 25—so you can paddle or boat from our landing directly into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness without driving or shuttling to another launch.
Shorewood sits just above our central waterfront and boat landing. It is not a private waterfront home, but the shared docks, boathouse and fish-cleaning house are just down the hill, giving you easy access to everything Moose Lake has to offer.
THE CABIN
Shorewood sleeps up to 10 guests and is especially well suited for families, extended families, fishing groups and friends traveling together.
The main floor has two private bedrooms, each with a queen bed. Upstairs, a large split loft has six twin beds, creating a fun and flexible sleeping space for children, teens or additional adults.
The cabin includes a full bathroom plus a half bath—particularly helpful when traveling with a larger group.
At the heart of Shorewood is an open kitchen, dining and living area beneath dramatic 20-foot vaulted ceilings. The timber-style interior gives the cabin a warm, lodge-like atmosphere, while the open floor plan makes it easy for everyone to spend time together.
A freestanding fireplace adds warmth on cool Northwoods evenings, and firewood is provided.
THE SCREENED PORCH
One of Shorewood’s best features is its large screened-in porch overlooking Moose Lake.
It’s the kind of space that quickly becomes the center of a cabin vacation—morning coffee while listening to the loons, family meals after a day on the water, evening card games or simply sitting together and watching the sun set over the lake.
Shorewood’s elevated position above the landing provides beautiful views while keeping guests close to the waterfront.
DIRECT ACCESS TO THE BOUNDARY WATERS
One of the things that makes Vosburgh’s especially unique is our location directly on Moose Lake, BWCAW Entry Point 25.
From our landing, guests can launch a canoe or boat and travel directly into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. There is no need to load your canoe onto a vehicle or drive to another entry point.
Take a day paddle into canoe country, spend the day fishing the Moose Lake chain or simply explore the water at your own pace before returning to the comfort of your cabin.
For families, this provides a wonderful way to introduce children to the Boundary Waters while still having a full kitchen, comfortable beds, bathrooms and all the conveniences of cabin life waiting at the end of the day.
Guests planning travel that requires a BWCAW permit are responsible for obtaining the appropriate permit. We’re happy to share local knowledge and help point you toward resources for planning your trip.
BOAT & CANOE INCLUDED WITH WEEKLY STAYS
Stays of seven nights or longer include use of a 16-foot Lund fishing boat with swivel seats and a canoe.
Motor rentals are available separately, and guests are welcome to bring their own motor of 25 hp or less.
Additional boating and fishing equipment may be available, including 25 hp motors, trolling motors, depth finders and canoes. Live bait and other fishing necessities are also available at the resort.
Our shared waterfront includes docks, a boathouse and a screened fish-cleaning house, making Shorewood an especially convenient option for fishing groups.
There is also parking available for multiple vehicles and boat trailers.
FISHING, SWIMMING & DAYS ON THE WATER
Moose Lake and the surrounding chain offer excellent opportunities for fishing, boating, canoeing and swimming.
Anglers can pursue walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass and lake trout in the surrounding waters. Spend the morning fishing, return to the landing for lunch, then head back onto the water for an evening trip.
Families also enjoy swimming and jumping from our docks. We do not have a swimming pool—the lake is our swimming hole.
Children should always be supervised around the water and docks.
EXPLORE BEYOND THE RESORT
There is plenty to do when you aren’t on Moose Lake.
Shorewood makes a great home base for exploring the Boundary Waters and the Ely area. Spend a day paddling into the BWCAW, hike at nearby Secret/Blackstone or Kawishiwi Falls, explore other trails around the Fernberg corridor, or head into Ely for restaurants, shops and local attractions.
Or don't plan anything at all.
Some of the best days here are spent fishing in the morning, swimming in the afternoon and watching the sunset from the screened porch in the evening.
TRAVELING WITH A LARGER GROUP?
Shorewood works particularly well for extended families and groups because Tanglewood, another of our cabins, is located nearby and sleeps up to six additional guests.
Renting Shorewood and Tanglewood together can provide space for up to 16 people while allowing families or groups to have separate cabins and sleeping spaces.
Please inquire about availability if you're interested in reserving both cabins.
A FAMILY-RUN RESORT WITH GENERATIONS OF HISTORY
Vosburgh’s Custom Cabin Rentals is a family-run Northwoods resort with generations of history on Moose Lake.
Our family has welcomed guests to this special corner of northern Minnesota for decades, and we continue to enjoy helping visitors experience Moose Lake, the Boundary Waters and the Ely area.
Because we know the area well, we’re happy to share suggestions for fishing, paddling, hiking and day trips. Whether this is your first visit to canoe country or your family has been coming north for years, just ask.
The property includes multiple cabins. Shorewood is your own private cabin, while the central waterfront, docks, boat landing, boathouse and fish-cleaning facilities are shared with guests staying in our other cabins.
For many of our returning guests, that traditional family-resort atmosphere is part of what makes a week at Vosburgh’s special.
WIFI & CELL SERVICE
Starlink WiFi is available at the boathouse, with intermittent connectivity at Shorewood. Cell service can also be limited depending on your carrier.
Guests who need reliable high-speed internet throughout their stay should keep this in mind when booking.
For everyone else, it's a pretty good excuse to close the laptop and spend the week outside.
PETS
Shorewood is pet-friendly.
Pets must be supervised and may not be left unattended in the cabin. Please review our current pet policies before your stay and remember that this is a wilderness setting where wildlife may be present.
WHAT TO BRING
Bed linens and blankets are provided. Guests should bring their own bath and kitchen towels, personal toiletries, food and any specialized outdoor or fishing gear they would like to use.
Shorewood has a full kitchen, making it easy to prepare meals for your group throughout the week.
SEASON & STAYS
Vosburgh’s operates seasonally, generally from May through October.
Most summer reservations are Saturday-to-Saturday, continuing the traditional week-at-the-lake schedule our guests have enjoyed for generations. More flexible stays may be available depending on the season and availability.
If your dates don't fit a traditional weekly stay, please inquire. We may be able to accommodate shorter or more flexible visits, particularly during the shoulder seasons.
KNOW BEFORE YOU BOOK
Shorewood sits just above our central boat landing rather than on a private shoreline. Guests walk down the hill to reach the shared docks and waterfront.
Our property is an established, multi-cabin family resort rather than an isolated vacation rental. You'll have your own private cabin while sharing the waterfront and resort amenities with guests from our other cabins.
We don't have a pool, luxury spa or room service.
What we do have is Moose Lake outside your door, direct access to the Boundary Waters, excellent fishing, boats and canoes, beautiful sunsets, nearby wilderness trails and generations of experience helping people enjoy this remarkable part of Minnesota.
YOUR MOOSE LAKE BASECAMP
Wake to the sound of loons. Have coffee on the screened porch overlooking Moose Lake. Spend the morning fishing or paddle directly into the Boundary Waters. Swim from the docks in the afternoon, gather around the table for dinner and watch the sunset from the porch.
Shorewood gives larger families and groups the space to experience all of that together.
Whether you come for a family vacation, fishing trip, Boundary Waters adventure or simply a week away in the Northwoods, Shorewood offers the space, setting and wilderness access to make Moose Lake feel like home for the week.
