Amazing villa and location could not have asked for more. Smooth process fro start to finish. Thank you
Thank you very much.
Property is one of the best we have stayed in. Like every property it has its minor niggles and annoyances however go beyond that and you find a wonderful holiday home. The kitchen is well equipped, albeit a knife sharpener would be a welcome addition. The bedrooms are airy and spacious and the bathrooms are both excellent. The lounge we didn't really use as we liked the kitchen/dining area or either of the two terraces. The property is south facing. In the morning the sun is on your left allowing early sun bathing or, in the afternoon, the sun is to the right to do more. The swimming pool is neither very big nor very deep but it is lovely to simply slip into to cool off. When fitting the pool cover in the evening, ensure the winding wheel is to the house side of the pool and it is placed across from the semi-circular steps.
The house is really easy to find.... Once you know where it is! From Funchall airport as you arrive into Ponta do Sol there is a roundabout with a BP garage on the left. Take the 3rd exit up a hill and over three or four speed bumps with chequer board markings to a roundabout where, again, you take the 3rd exit up another hill. A garage with a green door will come to you on the left. Slow down and prepare to pull onto a short concrete driveway around a right hand corner and just before a zebra crossing. If you go over the crossing, you've gone too far. The name Girassola is on a plaque on a wall to the right hand side of a green metal sliding door.
There is no doubt we will do this again in the same quinta.
Thank you very much for your comments. Hope you come to stay again.
Beautiful home, great antiques, lovely grounds
The house is beautifully cared for and well equipped. The information book left by the owner was very complete and quite helpful. We enjoyed the porch at all times of the day and found the location perfect for exploring levadas on all parts of the island.
Thank you very much for taking the time to post your comments. Very much appreciated.
Lovely villa, stunning views
A very nice, high standard villa. Beautiful bedrooms and bathrooms with comfortable beds.
Cosy traditional living room. Well equipped kitchen.
Outside, it was a pleasure to sit on the veranda and admire the view out to sea.
It's walking distance, uphill, to the village. We didn't walk down to Punto do Sol, but it's an easy 5min drive.
Our only complaint, is that there's a problem with ants in the kitchen and nothing could be left out on the units. We think the problem is that there's a leak under the sink somewhere as it did have a strong damp smell.
This wouldn't put us off in staying again, but is something that needs looking at.
All in all, a beautiful villa.
Thank you very much for your comments. We will certainly follow up your ant comment, although maybe this was a one off as we haven't had any other comments. Thank you again.
Needs some attention to detail to improve to standard as advertised
Excellent views and great space for family Christmas holiday. Beautiful weather made it possible for us to relax outside and enjoy the pool. This was worth extra payment, however pool is not suitable for energetic swims as it is quite shallow. Gardens were beautifully kept and villa is fairly clean but could do with removal of dusty ornaments. Also some dust under beds and mattress stains on one of the beds. This did not detract from our overall impression of the villa nor spoil our enjoyment of it. The ants and the overwhelming musty smell in the kitchen, however would prevent us from returning. We would advise anyone thinking of hiring the villa to carefully consider the location. We hired a car at the airport. Don't do this. Have a taxi if you have not driven beyong Funchal previously. It was a hair raising drive made especially difficult because the villa is on a bend and impossible to drive into the parking space within the villa grounds. Whilst it is possible to walk down into Pont do Sol it is very steep and, as two of our party were not fully fit this was impossible. Local taxis were used to enable us to enjoy meals out and so all members of our party could partake in the wine and beer. The various Christmas displays were lovely as was the music in Ponto do Sol. We would love to return to Maderia for Christmas another year. Woukd probably choose a different villa and utilise taxis rather hiring a car.
Thank you very much for submitting your comments, and we are glad that overall you enjoyed the villa and Madeira.
We are sorry if the cleanliness was not 100%, and we have already spoken to the housekeeping team about this. It is certainly not a comment we have received previously.
For our future guests I would like to clarify that within the description on Homeaway, we inform the distance to the centre of Ponta Dol Sol "The town of Ponta do Sol at sea level, 5 minutes by car (2,9 Km) away", and in regards to the steepness and bends - that is Madeira! Our many previous guests have not had a problem driving into the parking space, and the house has been in the holiday rental market for some years now.
We also clearly state the pool dimentions:
Width: 4m to 6m
Depth: from 0,8m to 1,50m
Terrific stay, lovely house & gardens
We had a super time here, great house, well equipped with stunning views. We enjoyed our evenings with such views, pool is heated and the gardens are beautiful. Would love to return in a summer soon! Great restaurant at the nearby hotel in Ponta do Sol. Highly recommend this house.
Great that you had a super time and great that you have posted a super review! Thank you very much indeed. We very much look forward to your next visit.
The town of Ponta do Sol at sea level, just s few minutes by car offers a selection of restaurants and cafés (and three small hotels), as well as a couple of trendy bars. Before reaching the town, you will find, on the roundabout that provides access to the motorway network, a small shopping centre with a row of shops and cafés. Ponta do Sol is known as the sunniest place in Madeira, and the whole town front is a rocky beach with access to the sea.
10 minutes by car east is Ribeira Brava, the largest town before Funchal, and that offers another rocky beach and sea access facilities in addition to a large supermarket and more shops, cafés, and restaurants.
10 minutes by car west is the resort of Calheta with its man-made golden beaches, a marina and a further choice of supermarket, restaurants and bars.
