Bass Harbor Oceanfront Chalet: Peaceful, Private, Great On-The-Ocean View

This is a charming Chalet-style home with 200 feet of shore frontage on Bass Harbor, with views of the working harbor and outlying islands. The Chalet sits on a private, wooded lot (screening you from neighbors), with a large 12' x 24' deck overlooking the harbor and tidal stream. The Kelly Preserve sits across the water from the Chalet, providing plenty of quiet and serenity.

Relax on the deck and watch lobster boats, sail boats, canoes, kayakers, and the Swans Island Ferry within the harbor, or enjoy the view from the comfy living room, dining area, or the ocean-view bedroom. Kids will love to feed the ducks that visit the shore, and you'll enjoy the sunsets from our shore as well. They are spectacular! The Chalet also has secluded and spacious off-road parking.

The property is adjacent to Acadia National Park, which offers beautiful scenery and these recreational opportunities: mountains, ocean views, fresh water lakes, and hiking trails. Also available are naturalist cruises and hikes, whale watching, kayaking, biking on carriage roads, and fresh seafood! There are many restaurants within three miles.

Note that we rent only Saturday-to-Saturday (in increments of 7, 14, 21, etc. nights.)

Note also that the two bedrooms are on the second floor and the bathroom is on the first.

At least one load of laundry should be run before final departure on Saturday. The house also should be left reasonably neat as well.
There should not be a "large" number of day visitors, because it may tax the water supply and sceptic system. (To date this has not been a problem.)

Warren is an excellent host. Property was clean and had everything we needed. We enjoyed our stay. It was peaceful overlooking the harbor and within 30 minutes to Bar Harbor. Maine is a beautiful area.

The chalet was clean, comfortable, and had a really homey feel from the moment we walked in. The furniture was soft and inviting, and the shower was excellent — one of those small things that makes a stay feel extra relaxing. The location and water view were the highlight. Waking up to the water never got old, and the whole setting made it easy to unwind. We would definitely stay again and would recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a quiet, comfortable waterfront getaway.

This home is located on the quiet side of the island providing a very private and relaxing atmosphere and a great place to launch your exploration of the other areas of the Mount Desert Island. Warren and Judy have maintained their family's MDI home with meticulous care. Another hidden gem is all of the information they have complied in the form of written descriptions as well as maps, books, and brochures. One outstanding example was a book that we found in living room entitled, 'Time and Tides in Acadia'.We would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone who is considering a visit to MDI and wants to appreciate the authentic richness and history of the Tremont area / the quiet side.Thanks again to Warren, Judy and their family

The chalet was delightful. It was cozy, comfortable and had beautiful scenery. It was wonderful experiencing the tides ebb and flow daily. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting a quiet getaway.Warren and Judy were great to work with and were available to contact if we needed anything.

Lovely and peaceful home

This chalet is adorable, right on the water! So peaceful, comfy beds, and perfectly located for Acadia. Warren was so nice, and we loved staying in their family home. You can tell it's a special place to them, and we're so glad we got to experience it.

Highly recommended. Great location, far away enough from the crowds elsewhere on the island, but still close to a few dining options and a few shops. The owners of this chalet really went out of their way to make sure that we were comfortable and pleased with our stay. Very pleased we chose to stay in their accommodations.

What a magnificent location on Bass Harbor. This location is just what we were looking for - quiet! We were able to kayak right of the property during high tide. The Chalet was clean and well equipped. The host answered any question promptly.

The property was as described and very clean. Very peaceful and a terrific view. I would say the location is mostly private (construction/ near by house). This house overall is very comfortable and felt like a 2nd home to me. The deck has terrific views of the harbor and the location is very near to Acadia.

Acadia vacation

We had a wonderful week in Acadia and loved staying at the chalet on the quiet side of the island. It was the perfect home base for our day trips around Acadia, and we enjoyed watching the harbor and the tide come and go from the deck. The house was very comfortable for a family of four.

Great location

Great location, near Acadia but away from the crowds. Nice views, that change dramatically with the tide. The chalet has all you need, and was clean and comfortable. Communication from the host was good as well.

Best place we have stayed on the quiet side of MDI

This was one of the best places we have stayed on MDI. Close to our favorite lobster pound, Thurston's. We have always enjoyed staying on the quiet side of MDI, and this house was in the perfect location. There was really nothing missing that we needed. I just wished I would have brought my kayaks. Definitely next time.

Great house in a beautiful location!

My wife and our two teenage daughters had a wonderful week staying at this house. As described, the house is right on Bass Harbor, which makes hiking around Acadia and going to the ocean very easy. We love 'the quiet side' of Mt. Desert Island and Warren's house is the perfect spot to enjoy it. We hope to come back!

Why they chose this property

A quiet escape after sightseeing while still having an ocean view and not far from the Island's most scenic spots. Many amenities are provided, some of which were requested by previous renters. Our rates are very competitive compared to comparable properties.

What makes this property unique

Our property is on a 0.3 mile dead-end, paved road, so it doesn't see a lot of traffic. Parking is off road in our spacious driveway. Our property is lined with greenery (mostly white spruce) so there's a good measure of privacy as well. Several renters have commented that it serves as a 'quiet oasis' after a hectic day of sightseeing. Perhaps that helps explain the fact that we have MANY repeat guests. Some have returned for five, six, and seven years. One couple was with us for ten years!
