About Angela ZW
We are a family of four, we have 2 boys aged 23 and19. We live in a cottage in the New Forest which we restored over 3 years and have subsequently extended. We both had careers but enjoyed restoring our home so much that we carried on developing in the UK and renting out properties. It is now our means of income and way of life. Normandy was a challenge but worth it. The chalet in Switzerland was bought as a result of repeatedly visiting the same village year after year and wanting to be independent of rentals. Collioure was again the result of loving an area and thinking of our later years when we may enjoy the mild climate and some sunny did we know when we took the photo in front of the appartment in Collioure that we would be the proud owners of Les Arcades 1 hour inland from Collioure...In the meantime we want others to share our homes in our absence, we can't be everywhere, so it is lovely to share our homes with like minded 'guests'. See our other properties on owners direct Appartment in Collioure 8106543 Chalet in Switzerland 8043089 Farmhouse in Normandy 8042317 All follow the same theme they are not just holiday properties, they are another place to call home which we have created for ourselves to live in and enjoy not just a commercial venture,.
Angela ZW purchased this Villa in 2014
Why Angela ZW chose Arles-Sur-Tech
We have an appartment in Collioure which is fantastic, but we wanted a villa with a garden and pool. We thought of Spain but could not find somewhere which ticked all the boxes and were not impressed by most properties near the coast around Collioure. This is a 'pretty' property and we fell in love with it's views and potential. It is inland but we love the greenery , the river below us and the proximity to Spain, it is a place where you can get away from it all, have the freedom to wander around in your own space and enjoy the views and the all year round outdoor weather. We have worked there in January in shorts and a T shirt and had breakfast, lunch afternoon tea outside, it is only the dark evenings that stops us having dinner outside at that time of year. It is around 50 minutes to the coast and 30 minutes to Spain. Plenty of local markets and small shops to keep the fridge stocked.
What makes this Villa unique
This 'villa' is in a beautiful location with 360 degree views. A balcony area (40m2) to die for and plenty of space to wander in the garden with several seating areas to stop and ponder and a large sun bathing area adjacent to the pool. It has spacious accommodation which can easily accommodate family and friends. It was a dream to have a villa with a pool, but most are too expensive, the remainder were surrounded by over development, ugly to look at and no view to boast about. When I saw this on the internet it looked lovely, even though it had suffered years of neglect and once visited it was impossible to walk away from..

Stunning views in a beautiful area
The property has an amazing view from the balcony onto the surrounding hills. We enjoyed watching the sunrise one morning with a coffee on the balcony and saw a spectacular number of swifts taking a drink from the neighbour’s pool. The property would be perfect for 6 people and had everything we needed for a lovely holiday. The pool was very clean and a good temperature for cooling down from the sun. The garden and grounds are beautiful and our boys loved using the pool and table tennis tables.
Thank you for your review. The villa is in a lovely and our boys also enjoy games facilities.
We try to present the grounds , the villa and garden at its best so like minded people have a lovely holiday.
A perfect peaceful getaway.
Beautifully appointed and exceptionally well equipped villa. Excellent quiet position, exactly what we all were looking for. Unfortunately, we were there during the hottest June conditions on record ( 42 degrees C ) and the small electric fans were old ,noisy, and ineffective. However , these are very unusual circumstances and would not usually present a problem. Overall a superb home from home.
I am pleased you enjoyed the villa. The week you were there was truly exceptional. When we are there we tend to use the through flow of the breeze through the doors and windows, all rooms opening onto the balcony have French doors. The fans at the house are around one year old and are current models in the supermarkets.
We are looking forward to our next trip
The villa was lovely, well maintained and equipped and very clean. Lots of information supplied by Angela in advance. The villa had everything we needed for a great family holiday. We stayed for 2 weeks as a family of 4 with 4 additional family members joining for the second week. Plenty of space for all. The property in in lovely gardens and has a brilliant pool area so whether you want sun or shade you are spoiled for choice. The villa is a little further from Arles than we'd understood but proved to be a decent morning run or cycle to the town for the bakery run. Arles itself seemed typically french - quiet! The few restaurants in Arles did not seem appealing so we headed to nearby Amelie les Bains where there was more choice and a nice square of cafes. The scenery is stunning and there were enough activities to keep restless teenage boys happy. Local Gorges de la Fer is a nice cooling walk for a hot afternoon and an easy walk from the villa. We did Canyoning from Ceret with Oxygen Adventure which was brilliant. Also recommend Buggy Ride 66 further away in Ille-sur-Têt - Amazing tracks and views, a great way to see the area. We also ventured further away to Les Angles to use the gondola uplift for mountain biking - great fun but brutal. Plenty of bike hire shops saves breaking your own. After a lot of searching we did find some local marked rides from Arles (search Sud Canigou VTT) which were brilliant. Would certainly recommend the villa.
Thanks for your review, I am pleased you had the sort of holiday you obviously love - very energetic!!. There are buggy rides from Gorges de la Fou, my sons did it on a not so nice day - cold but they loved it.
The villa location is on the map on Home Away the french absorb many hamlets into the main town, so future guests who are not aware of this should double check where they want to be based. We prefer to be in the country as the views are spectacular.
Arles sur Tech is sleepy, but i am told many of the restaurants are good, but Tapis is sill my favourite just over the border in Spain. I do not like recommend as we are all different, with different likes and expectations. We like to buy food and eat at home!!
We are odd to the villa next week and our boys are still joining us for the 2 weeks! (20 and 24 now
Beautiful location and the villa was lovely with all home comforts. Excellent
The location was great easy access from Perpignan airport. The villa was excellent, everything you could need and well thought through. The pool and games room were fantastic and outside seating areas. Recommend to anyone who wanted a peaceful location but close to areas of interest.
I am really pleased that you enjoyed staying in our 'home'. Thank you for your review, it is great when people like the house as much as we do. We hope to visit soon to escape this weather!
We looked at this property a while back and were impressed by the images. Its not something you should always do, but on this occasion, it was absolutely spot on. We intended to go for something with a swimming pool, which it had, and close enough to the beaches to be able to enjoy the Med. Quite frankly, as beautiful as the Med is, we only saw it once! The house was stunning, really a place you dream of going to, and always left impressed. We spent several days in and around the mountains, a few days in Spain, taking in Barcelona and the hidden treat of Girona, and spent warm evenings on the balcony where we ate, star gazed (the whole milky way can be seen on a clear night) and even managed to see Wild Boar running up the driveway. The rooms were lovely, two beautifully taken care of bathrooms, quite a few rules, but no surprise really when its so well taken care of. Think my only thing would be to attached a spiral staircase from the balcony to the swimming pool but thats about it. Really enjoyed it and I hope we manage to return sometime soon. The service was wonderful too, any problems quickly solved by Gordon from across the valley and Angela who is quick to reply to messages. Without a doubt, 5 stars.
What can I say , thank you for a lovely review. it is great when people love it as much as we do, we have two years into making this a lovely 'home' but we appreciate the villa/location etc may not suit everybody, however it is wonderful when guests enjoy it as much as we do and we too rarely venture far as we love the location away from the crowds.
We still have not seen the wild boar, we thought we had removed all attractions for them but this year it was something by the olive tree and they de built a small stone wall.
The comment about Girona is noted as we have only collected people from the airport so one day we will venture there
Thanks again foe the review, we cannot wait to return - may be in october
A Fantastic Get-Away Family Holiday.
Angela: thank you so much for an absolutely wonderful house & setting! The views & peaceful location were so relaxing- just what we needed. Everything, but everything, was provided in the house, from linen & towels to the excellently equipped kitchen & of course the pool which was well used! It suited perfectly for us grandparents, our son, his wife & his children (ages 19 down to 5). An ideal location for our visits to some beautiful local villages & to crossing the border for a quick look in Spain, including the great meal at the Tapis restaurant (directed by the ever-helpful Gordon). There is no doubt that we would thoroughly recommend this venue to anyone. Our week was just not long enough!
I am really pleased you had a great time. We love it there and always hope guests are of the same opinion. We try to provide everything that is possible to make for a happy holiday. I would also agree that one week is not long enough. I am sitting in the Uk in August thinking I know where I would like to be!!
Perfectly placed in lower Pyrennees for hills and coast, continue up valley to small hamlets with stunning scenery. Markets at the spa town Amelie les Bains 10km and the cherry and artists town of Ceret (18km).
The coast suits all, rocky coves for snorkelling at Collioure or the wide sandy beaches of Argeles, St Cyprien for smaller children.
I will provide a list of interesting locations, guide books, maps and leaflets at the villa.
We drive to the villa as we always have things to take, we use Portsmouth to Ouistreham(Caen) and we have a guest code for discount on the crossing, It takes around 12 hours with stops but is an easy interesting route.
We have collected our sons from Gerona airport (about one hour away)100km which flies from Bournemouth, Perpignan which flies from Southampton (about 45 minutes) and Barcelona - from Heathrow/Gatwick which is around 2 and a half hours from us (195km.
Others have flown to Beziers, Carcasonne and even Toulouse.
Timing can be variable depending on time of year, day of the week and time of day. Hire cars are preferable, but it is possible to use the trains, Perpicat,1 euro bus service and taxis if you are brave.
Spain is never far away 30 minutes from the villa, there is a fantastic restaurant about 30 minutes away in the middle of nowhere - it seems called Restaurant Can Mach which is worth a visit. Figueres has a market and the Dali Art Museum 55km. Even the Empuria Brava/Roses is not that far for a day out.
The area is surrounded by vineyards - so stock up, depending on time of year, there is either the blossom of the cherry, peach, nectarine, almond, apricot trees or the fruits at the roadside or in the shops.
Sea food lovers will enjoy a trip to Port Vendres to the restaurants and the fishing port where there is a large shop and several fish counters.
There is nothing nicer than wandering around the small cobbled streets of Collioure, taking in the varied gift shops and galleries, having a coffee or a meal at one of the beachside cafes or a picnic on the beach.
