We loved our stay at Casa Rustica 1. The location is perfect within Palm Beach Estates and a short walk to Playa Grande beach. The house was exactly as advertised. It is well appointed, comfortable and very private. We enjoyed living the simple life, playing in the ocean, riding bikes on the beach and sampling all the great restaurants in the Playa Grande area. This was our most relaxing vacation ever. We are already planning our return trip.
A beautiful house with all you need for two.
A little tricky to find. Sharr gives very good info on security. Loved sitting out on the patio for breakfast. Near the beach and Cafe Mar Azul, which we loved.
You can take a water taxi to Tamarindo for $5 per person and get there in ten minutes or drive a bumpy road there for 40 minutes.
We would return.
Casa Rustica was perfect for us, clean, very private and easy access to the beach for surfing and sunsets. Restaurants and small convenience store all within walking distance. Plan ahead before you get into Palm Beach Estates if you want more grocery items because once you go through the gate you don’t ever want to leave. The hosts were always a text away if you need.
We will be back again!
Casa Rustica is a great little spot for two. The location is a quiet neighborhood and a short walk (6mins) to the beach an surfing. A few restaurants nearby within easy walking distance, and easy to get to Tamarindo for more via the panga ferries.

Restful beautiful location
Sharr and her husband were outstanding hosts. They arranged an estuary tour for us one morning and we saw a family of Howler monkeys, many birds and more amongst the mangroves. The beach was an easy walk and very clean and beautiful. Casa Rustica was well maintained and we had everything we needed. We made good use of the kitchen and enjoyed eating breakfast and lunch on the patio. There were many excellent places to eat in walking distance. We especially enjoyed the mahi mahi local dishes at Rip Jack Inn. The casa felt very safe and the gated community added security. We would love to stay here again on a future visit.

Peace and Beauty in Playa Grande
Casa Rustica 1 was just what we were looking for in Playa Grande. It was great being in a neighborhood that had its own restaurants and direct access to the beach. We rented surf boards, ate great meals, and watched the sun set over the water. My wife went to a Yoga class at Hotel Las Tortugas and got a great massage from a physical therapist at the Manglar Hotel. All of those things were just a few minutes away from the casa.
We went into Tamarindo one night but never went back. We realized everything we wanted was available nearby with none of the crowds and all of the peace and quiet we could ask for.
The casa itself was clean and comfortable with a nice king-sized bed. It was very helpful to have a large refrigerator for our food and a full-sized washer and dryer when we needed it. I loved the little amenities like beach chairs and an insulated picnic basket. The outdoor shower had warm water and was great for washing off the sand after a day at the beach. A concierge book laid out the area so we knew where all the stores and restaurants were, and the security safe, home alarm, and key box made coming and going so easy and secure.
There was another family staying in Casa Rustica 2, and we wondered how that would be, but the casas are well-separated from each other and the plants and trees are perfectly placed so that we felt like we had complete privacy the entire time. Even when the other guests were outside, we couldn't hear them or see them unless we were leaving the property through the gate.
Sharr was a great host and made sure everything went smoothly. Because of her, we decided to try surfing and had an incredible time learning something new. She made it feel like we were staying at a friend's house and seemed genuinely happy that we were enjoying ourselves. We loved the warm hospitality.

Response from VrboOwner on 1 Apr 2020
We were very disappointed with this review because we never received any complaints or messages from the guests to let us know they had problems.
When we messaged to check up on them as to how things were going they responded saying they were already back in the States and had to leave soon after arriving due to family illness. This was very strange as they had not communicated at all about anything.
We always expect guests to let us know if they need anything or if the house is lacking in any way so that we may fix whatever is needed. When we got the review it was the first we heard of any issues and we immediately checked the AC confused as to why no-one else had reported problems. We discovered that the bedroom AC remote had been set on fan not cool or AC. It took a few seconds to change/reset it. There were a few sugar ants on the patio where we discovered a sugary drink had been spilt and we then cleaned it with Clorox and added treatments to the boundary for extra measure.
It is such a pity the guests didn’t stay as planned to enjoy the magic of our home and also a shame they never communicated with us instead of leaving a poor review without EVER having asked for service.
We work very hard to provide an amazing place, immaculately clean, beautifully decorated with exceptional service. We always have and will continue to go above and beyond to provide a special place including ensuring we are always available.

Casa Rustica was a gem
We loved everything about our accommodations. Comfortable, private, quiet, great location. This was our 6th visit to Playa Grande, The Casa was even nicer than described. The kitchen was perfect, a/c cold and bed was perfect. The only problem we had was that we couldn’t stay longer. Sharr was so helpful and available. I would stay there again.

Great beach bungalow for two!
This was the perfect little casa for two! Eveeyday waking up at casa rustica was exactly what I envisioned in Costa Rica: sun, birds, monkeys and beautiful tropical plants. The house is a <10 minute walk to the beach for surfing and the porch is perfect for naps in the hammock. Kitchen was great for cooking small meals and there are great restaurants within walking distance for dinners. Sharr was super helpful by providing boards and bikes and answering any questions about playa grande we had while there. Can’t wait to go back!!!

Perfect tranquil get away with very helpful and responsive host
My friend and I had a spiritual retreat here and it was just a perfect space with beautiful art and everything lovingly cared for. I felt like home, only nicer. LOL. The beach is just around the corner and its the natural protected turtle habitat where we saw the flipperprints of the hatchlings making it to the ocean!
Sharr was easy to communicate with, an excellent hostess. Even able to book and pay for shuttle to Monteverde on the VRBO platform, saving us from having to take out more cash. We rented surf boards from her and she had them delivered to our back door! The tap was wobbly and she was happy to have it fixed it right away.
Everything was excellent, I would highly recommend.

Exactly as advertised!
Casa Rustica 1 was fantastic! Exactly as advertised. One of the nicest rentals we have ever stayed. The rental was clean, decorated beautifully and had everything we needed. It was an easy walk to the Tamarindo community. The neighborhood is quiet and safe. We spent evenings walking to the many restaurants in Playa Grande. The beaches are some of the best. Communication with Kristi (property manager) was easy and quick. Do not hesitate to book this rental. Thanks again for the great accommodations.

Beautiful and very tropical!
We enjoyed our stay! It was quiet and very tranquil! We enjoyed the low-season atmosphere! We did not have transportation, but we enjoyed walking and hiking everywhere. This included our $1 a piece boat excursion across the estuary to Tamarindo. We loaded up on groceries and came back! All of it was enjoyable, adventurous and fun! We declined the option to order online for delivery from Wilmart. We were very pleased with our trip! There has been a lot of rain, and as a result the landscaping is lush - and with that comes Mosquitoes! But that is to be expected!!!

Perfect Couples get-away!!!!
This place was just perfect! My husband and I were trying to find a nice quiet get-away to reconnect and find some peace. This is it! While staying we ventured out to other places that were horribly crowded and loud, and everytime, all I could say, was "Man, we definitely made the right decision to stay where we did! There are 4 restaurants within walking distance, that were all amazing! You could easily stay your whole vacation within the gated community! The only downside was that the bed and pillows were a little uncomfortable. Out of everything that was so wonderful, I have to say one of the best parts is the property manager, Kristi! She went above and beyond to answer questions, give advice, book trips, and make sure we were happy. She is the best! I will definitely be returning!

We had a great time at Casa Rustica. Kristy the manager welcomed us from the start, gave us tons of helpful advice and even heped us with excursions. The casa was adorable. Perfect fro two people anymore then that it would be two small. We stayed at two locations durning our trip and loved Playa Grande. We felt safe and enjoyed the food that the local restaurants had to offer. We even got in touch with the local fisherman who brought us delicious shrimp and tuna. The beach was also very close and relaxing.

Wonderful Place
This is a very nice location. There are a few restaurants and a grocery within walking distance. The beach is also just a 5 minute walk away.
Kristi, the concierge was absolutely wonderful. She arranged a zip line tour for us and was very helpful in giving us info about the surrounding area.

Romantic getaway spot
Shame on me for waiting so long to write this review. My wife and I stayed at this quaint little casa back in 2015 while celebrating our 25 year anniversary. It was just what we were looking for. Walking distance to the beach, several restaurants and a mini grocery store, Wilmart. The Casa had everything we needed to cook and have a comfortable evening inside or relax outside on the patio and take in the wildlife activity. Don’t miss the opportunity of an evening outdoor shower. AC was a life saver. WIFI was lightning fast. We never bothered with the TV and when you get there you will understand. My wife and I are going back to Costa Rica for 15 days and we want our last 5 to be at Casa Rustica. Thanks Sharr and Hazel for making this gem so special and hope to see you soon.

Absolutely lovely vacation in an impressive house
Although it was the off-season, our stay at Casa Rustica was perfect! The house was exactly as described, and the transfer to and from the airport which was coordinated by Sharr was flawless. My wife and I will definitely be returning to this wonderful location. The beach was a quick five minute walk from the house, and the on-site manager Murat was exceptionally helpful and assisted us with coordinating activities (we even rented surfboards from him!). My wife and I will recommend booking through Sharr's company to all of our friends and family. You won't regret staying at Casa Rustica. The wireless internet was just as fast as it is in our home in Virginia, and the water was nice and hot. The kitchen was fully stocked with dishes and pots/pans, and all of the appliances worked perfectly. I wish we were back there now!

Great place great atmosphere.
This place was the 1st of our 3 home vacation. Very clean, very cute, close to the beach (walking distance) and store that had everything we needed. The restaurants in the complex were all great but our favorite was Bula Bula and the boat trip over to Tamarindo. The care taker of the place was very hospitable and gave us some recommendations for our stay. Thanks for letting us stay in your home.

Quiet and romantic, just what we were looking for.
This little cottage in the woods was very comfortable and only steps to the beach. Plays Grande is a beautiful clean beach with lots shells and surfers to watch. Aside from the surfers, we felt like we had the beach virtually to ourselves. A short walk down the beach and and a quick water taxi over estuary and you are in Tamarindo for shopping or tourist stuff. Many of the best restaurants are a short ride or walk. Do not expect major interstate highways. Dirt/gravel roads are common along the coast.

Fantastic Property and Location
My husband and I loved spending the last five days of our month long Costa Rican vacation at Palm Beach Estates. We had only booked 3 nights at Casa Rustica but inquired about availability to arrive a couple days early and were promptly accommodated by Sharr online. She upgraded us to Casa Loco to help us out and we couldn't have been more pleased with the house, location and Murat, the awesome property manager. Murat made us feel like locals almost immediately. The house was spotless and everything worked great (although we never turned on the TV); the efficient AC was really appreciated. My husband, a professional chef, was especially impressed with the quality of cookware, knives and kitchen utensils. I was impressed with the attention to detail of everything else. Sharr clearly cares about her properties and the comfort of her guests. The beach, a short, easy walk away, is fabulous. The local restaurants and mini-super are convenient. We took the water taxi to Tamarindo only once (which was enough); it was easy and cheap and was there if we wanted that kind of scene. Our scene was the terrific early morning birding and other wildlife viewing. But it was also fun to watch one afternoon of playoff football with my new friends at the Bula Bula hotel bar.

Quiet, private & relaxing - like Luxury Camping
We stayed 9 nights and felt very much at home. No surprises, the casa was just as described. Simply furnished and with all the basic amenities. We were looking for R&R in simple, private surroundings and this fit the bill. Sharr, the owner, was helpful & present when we needed her, but other than that she left us alone to relax and explore on our own. We were without a car, but an easy stroll to Bula Bula, Seven & the Wilmart within Palm Beach Estates or down the beach to catch a boat to Taramindo.

About the host
Hosted by Sharr Lawrence
My husband and I have been living in Palm Beach, Playa Grande for coming up 13 years now. We have two children who both attended school in Costa Rica. We travel more in the recent years but return regularly to upgrade and check on our properties here. It is truly a special place for us.
Why they chose this property
At Casa Rustica we saw the potential to create a destination for travelers that we always seek when we go on vacation. A place that is well kept, passionately cared for and feels a part of the nature and its surroundings.
What makes this property unique
We are all beach lovers with a passion for all things natural. We created our dream cottages at Casa Rustica with a modern beach theme whilst still keeping all things natural. Unique art pieces and colors make this house special. Its location and setting being close to the beach surrounded by large garden spaces and big trees cannot be surpassed. We feel confident you will love it as much as we do. It is close to the beach, only a few minutes walk. The setting is open and spacious with large trees. Privacy, peace and quiet are ideal for people who want to relax.
