Bedroom 1
The first bedroom has classic pine furniture providing ample storage for clothes, and a large fireplace. It is decorated with prints by Henri Martin, Picasso and Lautrec. Martin was an Impressionist, originally from Toulouse, who studied in Paris - earning a gold medal at the Salon of 1889. He finally settled at Saint-Cirq Lapopie and produced some of his finest work in the Lot Valley. There are fantastic river views from two aspects of this room. There are bedside tables and lamps, chests of drawers and a wardrobe - and still lots of space! The second bedroom has dark chinese style furnishings and is decorated with Picasso line drawings - the famous 'Dove of Peace' and 'Sleeping Woman' as well as the less well known lithograph 'Francoise en forme de soleil'. This room has a more sheltered aspect - with a fig tree outside the window. There is a large chest of drawers and hanging space, plus bedside tables and lamps.

Notes
- Children are welcome, but the house does overhang the river Lot, so toddlers would have to be under constant supervision. From personal experience, we would recommend the house to groups of adults, or families with a baby or older children who can be trusted not to climb out of windows or off the terrace, but anyone with adventurous toddlers might not have a very restful time! There are steps down to the 2 entrances to the house, but all rooms are on the ground floor with no internal steps.

Ask a questionAbout Frances Holmes
We're a professional couple with two boys and live just outside London. I'm a compliance officer at a major accountancy firm. My husband is a project manager for a European construction company and has a background in geology. The ruggedness of the Lot Valley holds particular appeal to us both as we each spent part of our childhoods in Yorkshire.
Frances Holmes purchased this cottage in 2003
Why Frances Holmes chose Cajarc
We bought this house after falling in love with the amazing river views, and with this part of France - particularly Cahors, Figeac and Villefranche de Rouergue. It sits perfectly between them. We christened it La Loutre after seeing otters in the river below when quietly gazing out of the windows enjoying the view.
