Nice old house

Very nice old house. We had no real issues except none of the DVD players worked and the upstairs shower had no water pressure. The neighbors did play loud music early in the am but that's not the owners fault. But it was a big old house and a lot of fun to stay at. Downtown Kinston had some great restaurants also.

Beautiful old home!

This house was beautiful!! Its an old home, with some old home issues, but nothing that created a problem. (some of the doors don't sit flush 1 outlet did not work) My kids loved the house too! 2 huge living rooms, a large dining room, and front entrance made a great area for them to run around in. The front porch was awesome to sit on, and enjoy the sunny weather too. We had 1 issue while staying there and had to reach out to the property manager, who responded in less than 5 minutes, and had the problem solved in 10! I will absoloutely bring my family to stay here again!

End of Semester

As always this is a fabulous house to rent when staying in Kinston. My classmates and I were coming down for our last week of finals at LCC and was nervous that we wouldn't find a place to stay or stay hours away from campus. Fortunately the Harper House was up and running! It was such a blessing. Mrs. Harper got back to me like 20min after I asked of the status on the house due to the hurricane. The owners of the Harper House are wonderful in the upkeep of the property and excellent in the check in/out process. I always this place when we had to stay, it definitely feels like home when you are away! PS: The new showerhead in the upstairs bathroom was on point after a long day with hospital rotations. :)

Big house...major potential

The house was in need of major TLC. Firstly off the lock on the door would not work as I later found the batteries were dead. Secondly many lights within the house did not seem to function and so we had to wander around the house in order to figure out which lights worked. The TV in the living room had no sound I contacted the owner of the house to let her know of the issues and she did not return my texts or phone calls until hours later. The house is very large with lots of space but lacks comfort and coziness due to owners lack of detail, style and concern for the home. the renovationss that are spoken of are minor in comparison to the continued work that needs to be done, the dryer in the home did not work, and hot water was sporadic throughout vacation. Although this vacation was a good price it's still in my opinion is not worth it due to the lack of contact by the owner as well as amenities in the home that were nonfunctioning.

Great Stay

This was a wonderful trip. Eleanor made sure the check-in was very pleasant. The house was spacious with a big yard. It was close to a grocery store and all the activities that we participated in. I do recommend that you may want to put TV's in all the bedrooms. All in all, I would stay here again and would recommend others to stay there as well.

A step back in time

Things that are great about this house are its location within walking distance of The Chef and The Farmer and all that the fun downtown area has to offer. The house was also clean and spacious.

Wonderful host and great deal

Spectacular old home around the corner from the hoppin area of town. Eleanor was very prompt and accomodating, even after I accidentally deleted all of her information. Would definitely stay here again.

Kinston Girl's Weekend

We enjoyed our stay in The Harper House. The house was very clean and the beds comfortable. We had a few minor glitches like no wine glasses that Eleanor addressed willingly. Apparently the previous guests had removed them along with other items that made the home seem sparse but it served us well for our ladies weekend centered around dinner at The Chef and Farmer.

Spacious, character home walking distance to historic downtown Kinston.

My family and I had a great stay at Harper House. We had a three night stay in December for a wedding and this house was an easy walk to downtown. The home was very spacious and more than enough room for 4 people, having three bathrooms was very handy. Everything was clean and well looked after. The property owners were prompt in replying to our questions and checking in and out was straight forward. I would recommend this property to anyone looking to explore the Kinston area on foot and enjoys homes with some unique character.

A Spacious Home

My wife and I visited Kinston, NC with two other couples in August in order to dine at The Chef and the Farmer and The Boiler Room. We had a great time. It is a marvelous place to visit with a bunch of friends for a weekend, especially if you are a fan of "A Chef's Life" -- a popular show on PBS about chef, Vivian Howard, who owns and operates The Chef and the Farmer and The Boiler Room with her husband Ben. The home is spacious and comfortable. Built in the 1920's it has a wonderful charm about it. The home is in need of exterior repairs (the owner informed us of ongoing repairs in progress), but the interior has been remodeled. The home is very convenient to downtown Kinston. It is a 10-15 minute walk to the restaurants and to Mother Earth Brewery and the Farmer's Market. The neighborhood is an old one; many of the surrounding homes are in need of repair; but as a whole many homes are in the process of rehabilitation, which mirrors the city of Kinston. We felt completely safe in the home. The home is well furnished. We cooked breakfast and one dinner in the home. There is no cable or satellite television, only a digital antenna. I would recommend to the owner a newer television in the living room area. Wifi is provided and we brought an Amazon Firestick with us which worked well with one of the newer bedroom televisions. There was a shortage of wine glasses, of which we informed the owner. I would have liked some pictures on the walls. We communicated all of this to the owner, who promised to address these concerns. The owner, Eleanor, was very pleasant, responsive and easy to work with.

Loved it!!!!

This property is huge!!! While we know Kinston isn't a "resort" town, the neighborhood was fine. Also: -furnishings were great, love that it wasn't just bare minimum (dishes and utensils, W/D, ironing board nice bonus) -clean when we arrived, clean linens that smelled FRESH!!!! -books and games a nice plus -love that we could control temperature -love that we didn't feel watched, that the caretaker wasn't popping around all the time -wall colors weren't jarring, nice on the eyes My family and I will definitely be renting here again!!!!

Awesome stay once again!!!!

This home is so homey that my classmates and I always enjoy staying here. A nice big yard to have a bar-b-cue and huge kitchen to cook. Staying at this home is always a great time!

Lovely...just lovely!!!

This home was an AWESOME pick for my classmates and me. It was close to our Paramedic program, as well as the hospital where we did our clinical rotation. The house was huge, we were getting lost in it. It was a cozy feeling and made us feel right at home. We will be back down there soon :)

Kinston House review

We stayed in this beautiful home for 5 nights. What a wonderful old Victoria home! So much character and charm with a homey feeling. Rooms were furnished nicely and the beds were very comfortable. Everything was ready for our stay, with made beds and fresh linens/towels. The owner was in touch regularly to make sure we had everything we needed and that all was going well for us. They were so easy to work with. The neighbors we met were friendly and said if we needed anything to just let them know. Arrangements for entry to the house with the neighbor was easy and flexible. The kitchen is modern and had all the kitched gadgets. Rent this charming home, you will not be disappointed.

Why they chose this property

A notable frame example of the Colonial Revival style is that said to have been designed by Sidney Andrews of Norfolk, Virginia, for J.F. "Jack" Parrott.. Built prior to the opening of the second section of Mitchelltown, this house caused the extension of West Washington Avenue to be made two lots north of its eastern section.

What makes this property unique

This house is minutes away from The Chef and The Farmer. Most of the guests are avid viewers of the A Chef’s Life on PBS.
