A heat spot to chill or use as a base to explore the region
Cartmel is a wonderful hidden gem - cute shops, plenty of eating options, plenty of walking options (for those that like a ramble) and a quiet, peaceful environment. The converted Old Roller shed is conveniently located to enjoy all of these. We were made welcome with a great gift pack which included Cartmel’s own Sticky toffee pudding (delicious). The property has it’s own off street parking which is helpful. This is a great spot to use as a base for exploring the region (the Lakes etc) or a quiet weekend.

Fabulous
Morning husband and I had a fabulous stay here. We were just around the corner from the centre of Cartmel, it’s a really pretty village. We had breakfast at Cartmel Square which was a great start to the day. Rachel was so lovely and welcoming and always answered any questions quickly.

I am Rachel and the owner of The Old Roller Shed. I have grown up in this beautiful and historic village. The village has changed a lot since and is such a great place to live and visit. I hope you will love it too!

Why they chose this property

When I was a girl, we knew the building on The Causeway as the council depot. Cumbria County Council used it to store the Council wagon, and more memorably, the snow plough. Previously it had housed the Steam Roller. In the UK, a number of companies owned fleets of steam rollers and contracted them out to local authorities. Many were still in use into the 1960s and a few were still being used for road maintenance in the early 1970s. Unfortunately I have been unable to find much information about our Roller Shed but by the early 80’s the Steam Roller had ceased operations.
My husband and I were lucky enough to purchase the “Shed” in 2010 with all the intentions of using it for storage but as the building started to decay, we decided we had to bring it back to life!
I hope you will agree that a unique and modern transformation has taken place whilst retaining the charm of the old building.

Welcome to The Old Roller Shed!

What makes this property unique

The Old Roller Shed is such a beautiful space. I have tried to keep it all quite modern and light so you can appreciate this unusual building but still find it quite cosy for those romantic nights away from home.
