About this property
Heavenly Tuscan cottage a perfect romantic retreat for couples
Situated in the Apennine mountain village of Monte Viale our Tuscan cottage is the loveliest romantic retreat for couples that love walking, nature, wild swimming, peace and quiet and a slice of 'real' Italy. If you are expecting nightlife and clubs, this house is not for you. Our nightlife consists of listening to the nightingales and watching the fireflies.
The Cottage is a perfect Creative Retreat, we can provide all artist materials including easels, canvases and paints...just ask.
If you like seafood we would recommend a visit to Rimini, not for the beach though as it gets very crowded.
We enjoy picnics and long walks in the woods, the local shops in Badia Tedalda are excellent and offer good local produce.
You can see wild boar, several deer species, sometimes a Pine Marten and even the odd porcupine if you are lucky! Walk the mountain trails and revel in the 'Top of the World views' wild swim in the Speccia de la Luna (Moon pool)
Visit ancient walled towns such as Anghiari and Sansepolcro. Situated just a couple of hours from Florence, you can easily visit for a day trip. Alternatively stay close to the village and enjoy all the surroundings have to offer. A walkers paradise and a romantics dream.
The cottage is set over three floors with a 'Cantina' below. A quirky modern interior to the property complements the ancient exterior. A contemporary kitchen and bathroom make the cottage really comfortable. We have tried to ensure you have all the basics you would need for your break including a pasta making machine, should you be tempted to try your hand at making your own pasta.
Their are several local markets to visit, although for this cottage a car is essential. There are markets in Sansepolcro on Tuesdays or Pieve San Stefano on Mondays, if you enjoy antiques there is a huge market on the first Saturday and Sunday of the month in Arezzo, a truly magnificent city, exquisite restaurants offering the best local cuisine.
You can access the cottage easily from the following airports.
Perugia - 1 hour 15 minutes
Bologna - 1 hour 45 minutes
Rimini - 1 Hour 15 minutes
Ancona - 2 hours
Although the cottage has two bedrooms, we would highly recommend it to couples who really enjoy walking and the beauty of natural surroundings. I am afraid that we cannot accept children or animals as the cottage is really suitable only for adults. The Cottage is on the boundary of the Alpe Della Luna National Park.

About the host
Hosted by Susan Sturton

My husband Tony and I (Sue) bought our Casa Della Luna in Monte Viale after spending holidays in the area and falling in love with the surrounding countryside, it is totally unspoiled. In fact we love the area so much we have bought another house which is were we now live with our bonkers mutts and a very superior Siamese cat. Another reason we chose the house was the proximity to the local Arab horses, so wonderfully bred by our neighbour Leonardo, my wonderful old horse Moo lives there and is very partial to a carrot if you happen to be passing.
Why they chose this property
My (Sue) father used to holiday in this part of Italy as a chid and when we visited and started in earnest looking for a property, the views from the cottage at Monte Vaile captured our hearts, it is pure magic. We spent the next three years renovating the house, lovingly filling it with quirky pieces of art.
