About this property
Mullaghduff Thatched Cottage on the Wild Atlantic Way, near Kincasslagh, Donegal
Failte Ireland Welcome Standard awarded: This cosy 2 bedroomed thatched cottage with a wood burner and king size beds is situated in Mullaghduff (between the villages of Annagry and Kincasslagh) on the Wild Atlantic Way (R259), ideally located for exploring and enjoying the many attractions of Donegal including Slieve League (the highest sea cliffs in Europe - three times higher than the Cliffs of Moher), Glencomcille Folk Village, Errigal Mountain and the Poisoned Glen, Dunlewey Lakeside Centre, Errigal Pet Farm, Glenveagh National Park/Castle, Glebe House and Gallery, Ards Forest Park, Fanad Lighthouse, Doagh Famine Village and Malin Head.
The county of Donegal is known for it's stunning wild and rugged coastline (the longest coastline of all counties on the Wild Atlantic Way): fishing ports, cliffs, islands, coves, piers, harbours, lighthouses and miles of clean, sandy beaches. Activities available locally include deepsea fishing, kayaking, canoeing, diving, surfing, sea stack ascents, sightseeing/heritage cruisies, and island tours (Arranmore, Gola, Owey and Tory).
Or venture inland to the mountains, valleys, lakes, rivers, boglands, fields and forestry, outstanding natural beauty, attracting tourists for river and lake fishing, golf, horse riding, walking, hiking, bird watching, cycling (cycle hire is available in Dungloe), rock-climbing, abseiling and winter mountaineering.
Our nearest beaches are Carrickfinn Blue Flag beach and Mullaghderg beach, both less than 3km away. The nearest town is Dungloe, approximately a 20 minute drive away, with good supermarkets, bars and restaurants and souvenir shops. Convenience stores are available in Kincasslagh and Annagry, both just 3km away and open 7 days a week.
With an open plan living, kitchen and dining area, and a wood burner with stone fireplace, this cottage is cosy and inviting for couples and small families.
The main bedroom has a king size bed, bedside tables, a double wardrobe and small dresser. The en-suite has a shower, wc and basin.
The second bedroom has two single beds which can be zipped and linked to form one superking bed (please advise your preferred set up), bedside tables and a double wardrobe, and also has an en-suite shower, wc and basin. Both bedrooms are carpeted, while the living area has a flag stone floor.
There is a cloakroom just off the hall, and this room has a washing machine, tumble dryer and a third wc and basin. An iron and ironing board are also provided.
The kitchen area has all the appliances required for an enjoyable self catering experience including dishwasher, cooker, fridge, freezer and microwave, a generous supply of crockery, cutlery, glassware and cookware. There is a dining table with seating for 4 and a high chair can be provided, please request when booking.
The living area contains one three seater sofa, one two seater sofa, occasional tables and a smart tv with freesat. The woodburner can burn logs and/or turf, the cottage also has oil central heating included in the price.
Outside is a large area of fenced lawn, a stone patio with picnic table and a private drive with ample parking.
All bedlinens, towels, electricity, central heating (oil) and a basket of logs, kindling and firelighters for the wood burner are included. Carbon monoxide detector/smoke alarm installed. No smoking/No pets.
A 400mt walk from the front door will take you to Bonner's Bar, which holds traditional music sessions weekly during the summer season.
Please note that Mullaghduff Thatched Cottage is currently waiting for a re-thatch, we don't have a date for completion of this work. The original thatch has been removed, the galvanised under-roof has been painted and insulated while we wait for the thatcher to schedule us in when the materials have been sourced. We are operating as normal and feedback from regular and new guests has been great. A photo of the cottage as it currently looks has been uploaded.
