The Most Perfect House for Entertaining
The house was exactly as listed and then some. Our family got together for a long overdue reunion and used just about every part of the house, the huge porch and backyard. The house had everything we could have possibly needed so we were able to really relax and enjoy our time together. The location is convenient to both attractions and transportation. Susan was a great host, responsive and accommodating. Would highly recommend and hope we have another occasion to come back!

Tons of space and all you could need for a great getaway
Hi Susan, we are on the road back to Cincinnati and I just want to tell you how much we enjoyed your awesome home… And I think we used every square inch! From the basketball hoop to coffee on the deck to watching a football game in the media room to singing hymns and patriotic songs at the grand piano to Using just about every tool in the wonderfully equipped kitchen… Our families just loved it! The kids loved your books, the dads loved the pool table, and it was really a home away from home for us. Thank you.

About the host

Host profile image
• I grew up here in this upscale bedroom community just west of Washington, DC. My husband (an aerospace engineer) and I bought this property in 1989 because the lot and location were so nice. I am an architect and we founded, and for 35+ years have owned, a design/build construction company in nearby. We build new homes and remodel existing homes into beautiful, livable, showpieces. See also our many 5-star reviews for: Restored Double Log Cabin on 400 Mountain Acres, listing #380225.
• I caught the Southern entertaining bug from my grandmother who lived in Charlottesville, VA, and I thoroughly enjoy providing a delightful venue for family, friends, and colleagues to get away from home to enjoy themselves and each other. We have done lots of entertaining here for friends, chamber of commerce, Rotary, and other groups.
• Our kids have now graduated from college, and as we simplify, we are making our home available for others to enjoy
• Please NOTE: We have a small, completely self-contained living space with separate entrance on the lowest level. This space is not included in your rental fee. We MAY be staying there during your rental period. Garage and some bedroom closets also are not included in the rental. They are locked/inaccessible to guests, because they contain owner's belongings.

Why they chose this property

• It feels like home for family reunions, family vacations, business and professional retreats in the historic Washington District of Columbia area!
• The large lot feels more private than most.
• It's so conveniently located to area transportation; major roads, Metro rail, airports.
• Perfect for family, friend, and college reunions, vacations, business and professional retreats, training seminars (a foreign language education company stays frequently for immersion training), David's Tent groups, nearby concerts and performances, memorial services at Arlington Cemetery
• Washington DC, Vienna, Arlington, Fairfax, National Cherry Blossom Festival, Kennedy Center, Wolftrap National Park for the Performing Arts (5 minutes away), The Barns at Wolftrap, Embassy Tours, National Zoo, Smithsonian Museums, Mount Vernon, Manassas Battlefield, Great Falls Park, Potomac River, Road Biking, Mountain Biking, Hiking, Kayak and Canoe Rentals, Stand Up Paddleboard, Sailing and Marinas, State of the Art Theaters, Capital One Arena, Glen Echo Park, The Birchmere, Arena Stage, Jiffy Lube Live, The Verizon Center, Meadowlark Gardens for weddings (5 minutes away). This area is a dancing mecca; many East Coast Swing and West Cost Swing Dances each week, Jazz dance, Bacchata, Tango, Country Two-step and Country Line dancing, Square Dancing, Contra Dancing at Glen Echo Spanish Ballroom, and much more. Multiple historic districts including; Old Town Alexandria, Georgetown, many Washington DC neighborhoods, Falls Church, Fairfax City, Warner Theater, Nationals Park, National Press Club, Top Golf. Museums include; Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, African American Civil War Museum, Sackler Gallery, Clara Barton, Dumbarton House, Folger Shakespeare Library, Frederick Douglass, Hirschhorn, International Spy Museum, Library of Congress, Mary McLeod Bethune, Museum of the Bible, National Archives, National Gallery of Art, Museum of Natural History, ANC Arlington National Cemetery

What makes this property unique

• People ask “How old is this house?” expecting 100+ years, because of the style and detailing. They’re always surprised to hear that it was completed within the last decade. It is designed for contemporary lifestyles, while evoking the grandeur of the past. The rooms are large, classically proportioned, and well organized. The house is extremely well insulated, minimizing outside noise and making for a cozy experience.
• Just 20 minutes to the nations capital, to the National Mall, Smithsonian Museums, White House
• It is convenient to… well… just - everything. It’s on a main street, not hidden back in a neighborhood – it is just minutes from the major routes in the area.
• It is particularly well set-up for entertaining (registered guests only - no parties/weddings/events, per County regulations)
